Protege - Titanium road bike Unlike Master series that focus on high level competition, Protege series frames tend to meet ordinary cyclists’ needs.
Protege series uses double butted 3Al-2.5V titanium tubes, and the tubes were stress released by heat treatment before welding into a frame. Standard size integrated head tube combined with slimmer tubes than Master series gives Protege a good blend of stiffness and comfort, and, moreover, a visually graceful effect. It is a frame suitable for long distance riding.
Strengths: Its double butted Ti, and beautifully made at that! Others unfamiliar with the brand almost always give it a 2nd look. And proven durability! I've unluckily crashed twice in two separate races in 09', leaving two small dents. After having it examined by the Distributor, I have continued to use it up to the present without any problems.
Weaknesses: It's double butted Ti!! Would I have the heart to part with it when the "upgradeitis" bug hits me hard in a couple of years?
This review is for the 08' size small Xochityl Ti frame with EA90 fork. The Xochityl Ti is everything you'd ever want: stiff enough for racing, durable enough for training and compliant enough for those long days in the saddle. Climbing, descending, multi stage events, etc. The Rikulau Xochityl Ti can do it all and begs for more.
