Strengths:    Light and stiff, and Ultegra components are great. Price was very reasonable.

Weaknesses:    Aluminum ride is said to be harsh. I can't comment on that as this is the only bike I've ridden, but it may not be for everyone.

Bottom Line:
I find it very funny that 2 years after Scott morphed the Speedster S1 into the S10 it finally comes up on RBR...so here you go. Bought this in the fall of 2005, fulfilling a long urge to get back into cycling. It was a bit above what I was looking to spend, but I got a good deal on it. So here I am about 9000 miles later and I have nothing but good to say. Sure, I have swapped some stuff: saddles, seatpost, wheels, and put a DA rear derailleur on, but she's still basically the same girl. Drivetrain feels stiff and responsive. Frame is quite light and stiff, but I don't find it uncomfortable. I'm 38, 165, in good shape, and routinely ride >60 miles and have done several centuries...no comfort problems (disclaimer, I've never ridden carbon or Ti...perhaps once I do I'll never be able to go back). The ride is on the twitchy side of agile. She wants to run and you have to keep your head in the game, but it is not unstable. Think about maneuvering and it does...like a fighter jet (I do that too). Overall I'm glad I "splurged" for the ultegra bike (was aiming for 105). It has gotten me into road riding and given me room to grow. I really like this bike.

Speedster S1 - headset?

Does anyone know the size of the headset that this frame (speedster S1) takes? From what I've gathered is that other Scott's are 44mm cane creek compatible.. Just hoping that this    Read More »
