Product Description

OVER 20 YEARS AGO, we named our first performance road machine after the French word for 'go.' With an entirely redesigned alloy frame reminiscent of the Tarmac, the new Allez delivers the light weight, efficiency and precision handling demanded by enthusiast road riders everywhere, regardless of how they say 'fast.'

-The new smooth-welded E5 frame, which features our seamlessly integrated FACT carbon seatstays, is solid, light, and fast.

-The Allez carbon fork soaks up road vibration, provides laser-accurate steering, and is ultra light.

-The Comp-Set stem combines a 12-degree rise with an oversized 31.8mm bar clamp, for comfortable, accurate steering.

-Find comfort in the drops with ergonomic Specialized Comp bars, with oversized stem clamp area for a solid bar connection.

-Shimano’s 105 STI levers shift smoothly and precisely over their 10-speed range.

-The compact Shimano crankset combines hill-friendly gearing with the look and performance of a two-chainring setup.

Strengths:    Nicely designed entry-level race frame; has most benefits of the Tarmac without the need to refinance your home. Very comfortable when sized to your repugnant body type. Lightweight

Weaknesses:    Everything is priced to move at an entry-level, but have not had anything malfunction yet and I've put about 700 miles on it so far. Not a very plush ride but then again it was designed to race, not tour.

Bottom Line:
Well this is for the 2010 model, but this site obviously hasn't updated their database in 3 yrs. Anyways, this entry-level racer was a fantastic value all around. It does have rather inferior group/wheel set but geez, for $650... I've ridden 50+ miles and no discomfort. I especially like the ergonomic drops that Specialized seems to, well, specialize in.

Strengths:    105 group unlike most of the competition (Felt had 105 too). Looks. Geometry.

Weaknesses:    Saddle (gets uncomfortable on longer rides). Breaks can be weak unless adjusted.

Bottom Line:
Didn't have option for 2009. I wanted an entry bike with 105 components or better. I've owned Specialized in the past and they have been great bikes.

I've had this bike for a couple months and have put a few hundred miles on it so far. No real complaints yet. The components are great. I had a blown shifter but Shimano (and the LBS) warrantied it out quickly. The brakes were soft but I tightened up the barrel adjusters and they are stiffer and better than before. Rides better than I had imagined (I used to ride my MTB on the roads) and is stiff when I'm mashing on the pedals. Climbs well and shifting is great.

Strengths:    105 Components all the way around, Seat is comfortable, Wheels role true.

Weaknesses:    Brakes need an upgrade.

Bottom Line:
I just purchased the Specialized Allez Sport Double Compact after much research between the Trek 2.1, Cannondale CAAD9 5 and Giant Defy 1. Overall, I really can't say anything bad about this bike for the money. The 105 components shift amazingly quick and the ride is very smooth. The brakes are a bit soft, but as long as you plan for a stop its fine.

Strengths:    105 components are excellent, Satin Black paint scheme looks tough

Weaknesses:    No-namer brakes leave a little to be desired, saddle is decent but I would still prefer something with a little more comfort.

Bottom Line:
Having not much experience in the Road Bike world (MTB transfer) I wanted something slightly above a basic entry-level bike. Think bike rides smooth and shifts are extremely smooth and precise. The brakes, however, will need an upgrade quick. Maybe it's cause I'm used to my MTB's discs, but the brakes on this bike make ensure I plan for "stopping distances". Overall though, I think it's an excellent starter bike for me! When compared to the Treks, I got 10 speeds in the rear and 105's all the way around. Seemed like a better value than the 9 speed rear 105/Tiagra (heavy on the Tiagra) Trek 2.1 or Sora/Tiagra equipped Trek 1.5
