Strengths: -Dreamy ride, absorbs road chatter with ease
-Very stable in cornering and steep climbs. Goes exactly where you want it to.
-Fairly light weight (16.4 lbs) yet plenty stiff
-Great paint job with outstanding finish and durability
-Solid component spec with Dura Ace, Easton EC90SLX wheels, and FSA carbon bar and post for $3000.
Weaknesses: -Creaky seat post clamp. I fixed mine with some FSA "carbon grease"...no creaking since then.
-FSA aluminum stem...its fine but wish I got the Time Monolink stem instead.
Bottom Line:
This review is for the 2008 Time Edge Racer. Overall, I have been extremely happy with my purchase. I got the Edge Racer with Easton EC90SLX wheels, Dura Ace all around, etc for about $3k.
The defining characteristic of this bike is a dreamy ride. It floats over road chatter with great vertical compliance while being plenty stiff for sprints and aggressive cornering.
The bike also climbs very well with my set-up. The Easton wheels are light and strong and the complete build with pedals is 16.4 lbs.
I test rode an Obrea Onix, an Opal, a Scott Addict, and Look 555 and this was by far the best one for me. The fit was very good and again, the ride is unlike anything the others could offer.
Strengths: Very light weight, handwoven carbon fiber, the monolink stem is amazing super light and stiff, very stiff ride, and zero vibration, you can feel the power of every stroke throughout the bike i have nothing but positive things to say about this bike
Weaknesses: None
Bottom Line:
Absolutely Amazing, beautiful geometry, once you ride this bike you wont ever want to ride another bike again.
Strengths: Amazing ride, great climber and super stable on the way back down. Built this bike up with record, can be had cheaper with ultegra. The luged construction is awsome, makes the bike feel alive. Brought this as a up grade from an old trek. This bike beats the trek hands down in feel and performance. Time even weaves there own carbon, take one for a ride and you will be amazed at there quality and performance. Amazing ride at amazing price.
Strengths: Smooth ride. Since it came with a compact crank, it really helped me with my hill climbing training. Thanks to this bike, I got much stronger in climbing and on a full race bike, I am even faster. Great for new hill climbers wanting to learn how to climb hills. Comes with Dura Ace.
Weaknesses: It's not a race bike.
Bottom bracket and top tube will flex excessively with stronger or larger riders (I'm 5'6" about 145 and I flex it). Still a bit pricey for a beginner bike/trainer
Bottom Line:
At the time I bought the Edge Racer, I was actually looking for a different bike. But I test road the bike anyway. It was lust at first ride. This bike is smooth and relaxing. It isn't the fastest or the lightest, but it is smooth and great for extemely long rides. The bottom bracket will flex a little under hard acceleration, but it is fine for hill climbing and pace lines. If you consider what this bike is, a trainer or touring bike, then the ratings make sense. If you try to compare this bike to a full raced bike, then the ratings would be low. I got this bike for touring and training, so I give it high marks. This bike is a bit pricey, but it's a Time and it feels like a Time.
