Strengths: Very fast, smooth, quiet, and visually appealing tandem. Have ridden on multiple types of road terrain around OC California and the standard triple 12-34 gearing is well equipped to handle most anything.Weaknesses: The Bontrager Tandem specific wheels are not repairable so if it develops cracks at the the hub, one has to replace them. The stock saddles are not very comfortable but replacement Terry saddles solves the problem completely. The breaks are noisy even when changed out multiple times. One high end brand brake pad solves this problem as well.Bottom Line: This is a first tandem and only have the test rides from similarly equipped Burley and Cannondale to compare with. The T2000 rode significantly better than both of the aforementioned brands. Bought the tandem new and used it lightly for several years with various guest stokers. The aluminum frame does have some noticeable occasional flexing but not enough to feel insecure over. The T2000 feels lightweight and the high-end looking Bontrager bladed spoke wheels make for easy acceleration and lots of compliments at the ride breaks. The bike has taken the usual road bumps around town and seems to stay intact with the exception of the rear Tandem specific Bontrager wheel. The rear hubs have cracked after around 2000 miles. There is evidently no Trek solution to repair these wheels as the weak two spokes per hub hole design is no longer available. This is the main downfall of the bike and has been noticed by other owners. I am rating a 3 mainly because of the non repairable expensive Bontrager tandem wheels that need to be scrapped. Otherwise it would be all the tandem a recreational rider would ever need. The new 2010 lightweight ROLF designed Tandem specific wheels have significantly improved both the ride, noise levels and the acceleration of the bike. Ultra smooth now!

Strengths: Smoothness, speed, stiffness and comfortWeaknesses: Braking power (yet combined weight is less than 300 lbs)Bottom Line: The bike is a 2008 Trek T2000 ("What year is your bike" does not offer 2008 option), which is the last year Trek built this model. I was fortunate to find this bike new at a bike shop about 250 miles away. First ride was great! It took just a few laps of our neighborhood to learn the basics; bikes dynamics, how-to communication and how-to perform emergency stops. A lot different than a single as you can feel the stoker pedaling and their side-to-side motion. Overall the bike handles these variations very well as the frame is stiff and does not flex.
The bike felts extremely light and accelerates very quickly. The long wheel base also helps smooth out the ride. Excited to ride it on a 3+ hour ride. Based on our short 10 miler and that we were professionally fitted, comfort should not be a concern.
Can not comment on other tandems, as this is my first, but this one is a nice ride. I recommend others to invest into a tandem and reconnect with your "stoker" :)
