It takes more to make a good time trial bike than a frame made from aero tubes. The all-new Trilogy uses tried-and-true TT geometry that promotes an aerodynamically aggressive riding position and a biomechanically optimized posture that helps you generate steady power over the long haul. Dura-Ace bar-end shifters and Ultegra derailleurs ensure reliability when you’re exploiting the aero advantage of the Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels, and a Syntace cockpit provides comfort and control in the aero position.
Strengths: Comfortable geometry. A very high quality Easton Aero fork and the Fizik Arione saddle is impressive as well. The Syntace cockput leaves no room for complaints.
Other components such as headset and transmission are also quite nice.
The aluminum frame is stiff, aero and comfortable. The paint looks great.
Weaknesses: There were several worrying issues with manufacturing and assembly.
1. The bolt securing the right crankarm to the spindle was cross threaded and nearly stripped. Luckily, the crankarm threads were OK and Jamis sent new bolts without question.
2. The seat post clamp required over tightening in order to secure the seat post. The bike shop called Jamis to question this and Jamis advised him to wail on it and if he stripped the bolt they would replace the frame. It worked and they didn't have to ante-up a new frame.
3. The 44/56 chainrings that come with a 172.5 crank arm length are 9 speed not 10. When in the highest gear the chain ring would drop the chain of the outside. Jamis sent a 53 to replace this.
4. The brakeset is a bit wobbly and are the lowest spec items on the bike. Not a huge issue on a TT bike but not a great finish on an otherwise nicely equipped ride.
Bottom Line:
Overall a quality ride at an affordable price. Jamis paid some attention to the right details but seem to have a let a few others slip. This bike looks much better out of the box than it does in the catalogue.
