Blue-collar bike with reliable Shimano 105. Didn't require a divorce to afford it. Wheel set, even though not top end, have a "chi chi" factor of 7 or 8.
Paint, rear brake cable routing, phantom creaks when standing (although I killed that cricket with a thourough maintenance and cleaning.)
2001 Trek 2200D - Pretty decent bike, especially at the discounted price and I have to agree that the spec parts are equal if not better than other bikes at this (discounted)price point. Rolf dual-spoke tech. wheels are spiffy and get a lot of comments. The cable-routing collars for the rear break are poorly placed under the toptube and catch sweat, making the cable more susceptible to rust and the rear break sticky. Also, at least on my bike, the paint is substandard. It's bubbling in several spots and has pealed clean off those little cable collars after only about a year and a half's riding.

light weight,
good looks.
carbon fork (not a great carbon fork, but it's a carbon fork)
beware of the stem. some of the Icon stems were recalled, check and see if yours is the one that was recalled.
handle bar very flexy
pedals stunk (Icon spd)
decent bike for the money. i got it for 1299 on closeout. that's just about where this bike is worth to me. i will not pay more then 1300 bucks for this thing. it's only got 105 components after all

This is kind of ironic, that I'm posting my first bike review on this site for a road bike rather than a mountain bike, but since It'll be a few more weeks before I get my hands on a '99 Stumpjumper FSR XC, I'll go ahead and post this review for the 2200, which I bought about a month ago.
As with so many other Trek products, this bike is a lot for the money. For about $500 less than some competitors' models, I got a 19-pound road bike with full Shimano 105, a bladed frame (in Trek's Alpha SL aluminum), and a carbon fork. The only items I've upgraded so far are the pedals (went with Ritchey Logic Roads) and the saddle (put on a Giro Fizik Pave after the Selle Italia Sphere rubbed me the wrong way). I would have liked to get this bike in some other color than metallic black (or Black Gold, as Trek calls it), but that wasn't going to keep me from buying it.
I bought this bike so I could do some road work about once a week to augment my mountain biking. Because this is my first road bike, I'm not really qualified to compare it to comparable models from Specialized, Cannondale, etc. But what I can vouch for is the impressively high quality of this bike. Trek showed an attention to detail on the 2200 that I would normally expect to see only on bikes in the $2,000 to $2,500 range.
My most difficult decision when buying this bike was whether to go with double or triple chainrings. After taking the wise advice of the folks at the LBS (Tucson Bicycles, a truly great shop), I decided to go with just 2 chainrings, on the assumption that I really didn't need 3 on even the toughest climbs up some of your mountain roads here in southern Arizona. Really, the 2-versus-3 chainring is a tough one to call, but I'm happy with my decision.
If you need a good road bike, it would be hard to go wrong with the 2200.

Rolf wheels
Tires
Frame stiffness
Seatpost
Creaking stem
Headtube decal came loose
Very satisfied overall. Rolf wheels took stones and potholes in races but no need to true them yet. 105s is reliable with positive shifting. Mad about the black frame.
Ride is snappy without being too stiff. Removed the headtube decal - it's only a sticker anyway. Next upgrade would be a micro-adjustable seatpost.

Frame: light, stiff, aero, quality welds. Wheels: Rolf! (nothing needs to be said). Components: The new 105 is the first 105 worth having... precise shifting, relatively light, durable.
The bottom line Continentals had to go, as well as the cheesy saddle. My front tire had a huge side wall bulge the first week. Replaced with Supersport Ultras. A trusty Flight saddle completed the package. Will need a longer stem also.
This bike won over similar competition because it is the best bang for the buck. It's much more comfy than a Cannondale (what ISN'T?!). The 2200 is better designed and equipped than other similarly priced bikes. You can ride for hours on it at club rides, and yes, even race it! You can buy a better bike, but it will cost you.
I recommend this bike for anyone who wants performance, lightness, and quality without going broke. Don't buy it if you have to have the latest, greatest $4000 bike to impress the others, although this bike will keep up with any bike.

Stiff aluminum frame, carbon fork,
Uncomfortble seat, tires (came with conti super sports). Both easily replaced. Icon (SPD) pedals are not very user friendly.
Great bike, excellent value. I got mine as a closeout, so the value is great. It's my first real road bike and I love it.

Great value and looks the part
Saddle
Tires, tires, tires
Fantastic bike which has given me a lot of fun with no real problems other than usual maintenance, The original tires we're rubbish, i have never had so many punctures and the saddle was very uncomfortable indeed. Otherwise great, i even talked my dad into getting a Trek, but he got an OCLV - show off!
Great for regular recreational riders who want the propper kit at a good price.

Good looking
105 works great.
Frame
Sizeing.
Be sure to get the right size,Treks fit way to small.
They measure from center of the bottom bracket to top tube.
Be sure your dealer fits you correctly.
I am 6'2''
I don't like this bike!
First of all Treks are sized way to small. My 60 cm is smaller then my new 58 Specialized Allez. My new bike cost the same at full price as the Trek and comes with Ultegra/ 105 mix. The Treks frame transfers every little bump in the road, it wears me out after 20 to 30 miles. The frame is just not sized well, which could be part of my comfort issues.
I didn't realize how much I don't like this bike until I switch from my Allez to the Trek mid-ride. Five miles on the Trek wore me out more and was more uncomfortable then 60 miles on my first ride with the Allez. My brother, who I switched with, couldn't belive how smooth the Allez felt.
If you are looking to buy one of these used I have a 60 cm that you can have cheap
