For commuting - none

Use these for year round commuting, 75 miles a week in Philadelphia. Ride them at ~ 80 psi, 140 lb rider. The back tire gave me 7,035 miles with three punctures, the front tire gave me 9,021 miles with one puncture. Amazingly durable tire, for commuting I won't ride anything else now. Has nice round profile for smooth cornering.

Durability: When I pulled these out of the package I had doubts about it. I now have 3,100 miles and can say many good things. No flats. No for real, no flats. Maybe YMMV as I keep my tires at 117/120 psi (yes even for these 28's). Still more comfortable than my 25's with less psi. Could be my skinny side walls though.

I ride almost all dry weather but if you stick to wet concrete you may want a softer tire. I have slid this tires several times but I don't imagine most riders would have traction problems (on road).

Excellent tire. Worth more money than it's sold for. I'm still waiting to see my mileage I'll get out of these. At this point it's looking like my rear will go past 4,000 miles.

If you're looking for a race tire this isn't for you but for any typical road bike rider; this isn't the best tire but it's pretty much a slick and you will not have flats. I'm serious. I use to order c02 on amazon by the case of 16 now I ditched my saddle bag and carry 1 tube in jersey.

Bottom line: I'll be buying these for the foreseeable future.

As for their performance, they do their job extremely well. No flats and barely any nicks in the rubber. My commute is only 8 miles/day, 10-15 days/month so I can't comment so much on tread wear other than there's hardly been any. At this rate, I'll probably get another 2-3 years out of them. They roll well and I like the roundish profile. They are noticeably heavy compared to my racing tires but with the amount of time I save fixing flats, I consider these to be just as fast.

This isn't really a weakness since they're intended for durability, but even with the extra air volume, they aren't the most supple tires I've ridden. Of course, this is due the extra puncture protection and extra thick tread. I do run them between 70-80psi which helps with comfort.

On my commuter ride I had been running various 23C racing tires but were all turned into swiss cheese from the glass on San Francisco's lovely streets. The Ruffy Tuffys are the fattest tires I could fit into my 2002 Litespeed Arenberg, giving me about 2mm of clearance between the chain stays. It's a bit tight for my liking but no problems with rubbing. I had to re-dish my wheel though.

Flats...too many of them.

I was incredibly impressed with the Ruffy Tuffys when I first rode them. Great cornering, light feel, and nice grip of the road surface. I felt I had found the perfect tire for my type of riding and all was copacetic for the first 1000 miles. But in the past month, without changing the type or locations of my rides, I have had a string of punctures that's caused me to throw up my arms and give up. In the past three weeks I've had at least a dozen flats. Admittedly, there were a couple that would have flatted any tire, but the others leave me scratching my head. As much as I love their performance, I'm tired of being seen with my bike upside down on the side of the road. I've decided to give up on the Ruffy Tuffys.

Round profile, low resistance with good tire size/pressure. Good classic looking tire.

After 1 year, the tire seems to be separating at the edges of the tread squares (in continuous lines around tire). Hasn't caused a problem yet, but I'm kind of waiting for a blowout...

I've used these (700/28) on my fixed commuter/century/all-round ride for 1 year now, and they've been great. They run fast and smooth. Not a flat yet.

These tires are fantastic. 700c x 28mm, very round profile, kevlar bead, kevlar belt, thick tread for long wear and puncture resistance. They stick tight to the road, especially in corners, where the round profile lets you smoothly lean way over with confidence. Ruffy Tuffys are made for Rivendell by Panaracer, and are of excellent quality. They're perfect for Just Riding Around, training, commuting, touring, tandems and anything else. I've become a better rider because of these tires. How many part upgrades can you honestly say that about?
