Strengths: Easy to use. Large, simple display. Durable construction.Weaknesses: No user replaceable battery in transmitter. No programmable heart rate zones. No watch/timer functions.Bottom Line: A reliable, basic heart rate monitor with an easy-to-read display. Turns on automatically when worn, turns off automatically.
Battery in transmitter is not user-replaceable and transmitter must be sent to Polar for exchange. Polar also advises users to send the receiver to them to replace the battery but I've replaced mine twice successfully. The battery costs $2.99 at Radio Shack. The waterproof "seal" between the halves of the receiver shell is nothing more than a thin coating of silicone grease.
The Favor receiver can be used with other brands of transmitters and I use mine with a Sports Instruments ECG2 transmitter (the entire ECG2 monitor cost less than Polar wanted for a replacement transmitter and the ECG2 has a user-replaceable battery).
Price Paid:
$130.00
Purchased At: Bikes Plus
Similar Products Used: Polar Pacer. Sports Instruments ECG2.
Bike Setup: Specialized carbon fiber frame with Shimano Dura Ace components.
