Kurt Kinetic Rock & Roll Trainer Pro Review

Trainers are very rigid and don’t feel natural at all as all the side to side movement when riding a real bike is eliminated. Kurt Kinetic aims to solve this woe by allowing some lateral and up and down movement in the Rock n Roll trainer. It accomplishes this with adjustable rubber dampers on the trainer platform. Furthermore, they designed an optional front wheel riser block that is free to rotate with the front wheel. This adds to the more realistic feel of this trainer as the handlebar exhibits some rotational movement, just as in a real bike ride Continue reading →

Strengths:    Sturdy build

Weaknesses:    overpriced

Bottom Line:
I think anyone would be better off spending less money on the cheaper road machine. I found this unit very uncomfortable to use for high leg speed or interval training. The unit exaggerates a bouncing motion that makes it impossible for me to use effectively, highly disappointed.

Strengths:    Smooth ride

Weaknesses:    Does not support 27" and larger wheels as it claims.
Buyer beware.

Bottom Line:
Attached my 27" Schwinn World Sport to the rock and roll trainer only to find that my weight caused the rear tire to press upon the floor so that it was not possible to peddle at all. 290 LBS

BTW my 26" mountain bike worked fine (smaller tires more clearance)

Strengths:    Stable, smooth, quiet, Rocking motion is awesome, Love the bright green color, easy to mount the bike, easy adjustments, and lifetime warranty.

Weaknesses:    A bit expensive but if you can slap a coupon down you'll walk away saving a decent amount.

Bottom Line:
This is a review for a new 2011 Rock and Roll trainer.. Haven't used the pro flywheel yet.

First thoughts... super smooth resistance curve and extremely stable trainer. I find the rocking motion and slight vertical compliance to help relieve some soreness associated with riding a trainer. Keeping the bike still takes a little effort which I appreciate. This is certainly the closest to real road feel I could expect from a trainer. Standing feels more natural than with a fixed trainer as well. Overall I'm extremely happy that I picked up this trainer. Wish I did much sooner!

Strengths:    Road-like feel, great resistance, quiet.

Weaknesses:    Big and Heavy

Bottom Line:
I decided to upgrade to a nicer trainer last year because I was just recovering from shoulder surgery and I knew it would be a few months before I'd be able to ride outside safely again. I did a little research and decided to go for the rock and roll trainer (with the pro resistance unit) to get a more realistic ride, but without the attention span that rollers require. I'm definitely glad that I bought this thing. It's super quiet (compared to my old mag trainer), it has a great resistance profile, and while the rock and roll motion isn't quite like riding on the road, it's much more realistic than any other trainer I've used. The only downside to this thing is that it's BIG and heavy. This is definitely not the trainer for someone who is limited on space.

Strengths:    * road like feel
* can suffer on it 2-3x longer -- much less trainer numbness
* super smooth
* super quiet
* easy to secure bike
* doesn't annoy my knee
* awesome when hammering out of saddle
* green color

Weaknesses:    * price
* green color
* old fashioned screw-style adjustment for resistance unit

Bottom Line:
I hate trainers and I have tried a lot of them over the years. However, the Rock & Roll is different: it is much more comfortable, it is more stable, and it is closer to riding on the road. That said, it is still a trainer, so you will need distractions: DVDs, Netflix, etc. Most importantly, I have a bad knee (hockey injury) which is irritated by other trainers whereas I can ride the R&R without problems. The R&R also really engages your core when you sprint.
