Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Alex R500 rims came with my bike. They were fine for the first 1000 miles, but after that the rear continued to break spokes. Had it fixed multiple times and finally returned them to Performance. They replaced with the R300 rim. Will have to see how the 300 holds up. I was not satisfied at all with the 500

Strengths:
none

Weaknesses:
spokes breaking regularly

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
These are the worst wheels I've ever had on a bike. I keep breaking spokes on the rear wheel every 300 miles. The bike mechanic said the R500 rims are noted to have problems. It is time to get better wheels.

Price Paid:  $520.00 at A bike store in Newt

Favorite Ride:
Trek 1100 -- 1989

Bike Setup:
1989 Trek 1100 original SunTour 4050 Edge group with "ovaltech" triple crank.

Summary:
I'm not happy with my Alex R500s. I bought them a year ago as replacements on my 20-year-old Trek 1100. I pick up my rear rim tomorrow after the fourth time it's had to be trued in 1500 miles. This rims is constantly breaking spokes. I'm not light at 205 pounds and I ride hard, and these rims just can't stand up to the way I ride.

Strengths:
Not many. They give a reasonably smooth ride and they roll well.

Weaknesses:
Having to have the rear one trued every 500 miles or so.

Price Paid:  $0.00 at Performance

Favorite Ride:
any that lacks angry rednecks running me off the road

Bike Setup:
SE Lager, mostly stock, with carbon fork

Summary:
I have had no problems with this wheelset, stock on my SE Lager, whatsoever and am quite pleased with it. 1 year now, using it periodically as a commuter bike (15 mile 1-way) and as an every day bike, at least 1000 miles on it by now. The wheelset has stayed true--while it might not be the lightest, it has suffered the abuse of the crappy, pothole infested roads around here, even with a load on it (180 lbs of me plus trunk rack filled with lunch and clothes). Not a single flat and wheels spin like a charm still

Strengths:
apparently sturdy when well built, reliable

Weaknesses:
on the heavy side, not the fastest wheel, not glamorous (is that really a "weakness?")
