Favorite Ride:
Texas Hill Country

Bike Setup:
1992 Haro Escape, Campy front 9 speed road triple, shimano 8 speed cassette, Sram chain, Alex R390 rims, Tektro R359 calipers, Vittoria Tires.

Summary:
I have these mounted on my trainer bike, a converted 1992 Haro Escape frame with Campy components, weighting in at 39lbs... plus when I started riding I was 265 (now down to 215)... I have 2500 miles on them and yet to have them repaired other than typical maintenance. Perfect wheel for the job

Strengths:
Strong and dependable

Weaknesses:
a bit heavy, but that is what you need for a heavier bike

Price Paid:  $500.00 at Once Ridden used and

Favorite Ride:
Specialized 2001 sirrus comp

Bike Setup:
Mid 80's Nishiki Olympic 12, converted to a 16 speed, with the rear wheel now a Mavic open pro laced to a shimano 105, from the 5500 series.

Summary:
I bought these rims as a set about 4 years ago, and I was pleased at first. However, after having to have the rear wheel trued time after time, and having a riding style that doesn't include blasting through pot holes or jumping curbs, or gravel pits, I found my rear wheel never stayed true. I finally had the damn thing warp on me after being on the northern end of the Olentangy trail. I don't know if it was the build on the rear wheel or if Alex rims have other problems, but the front wheel is the one that survived and I've never had a problem with it. I would say that unless you know the person who builds the wheel I now stay away from all Alex rim products.By the way both rims are 32 spoke rims, and I weight 200lbs.

Strengths:
Strong front wheel, don't know what to say about the rear on.

Weaknesses:
Will warp on you unless you have it built by a wheel smith you can trust.

Similar Products Used:
none other.

Summary:
good strong wheel, if you want it to be the best get it rebuilt w strong @ss spokes at a trusted shop, dont worry about the first review since he knows nothing about wheels..i weigh 230 and got my rear rebuilt before i bought the bike and it works perfect, road wheels and bikes arent ment for heavy or big people..thats why spokes break easly plus there entry level..what do you expect??

whatever

Bike Setup:
this rim is on a fixed commuter that has taken some abuse. rims still perfect.

Summary:
Awesome rims, not amazingly light weight, but strong enough for cyclocross. Build up easily, good braking surface, stiff rims in general.

Strengths:
Strong, light enough. in response to spoke breaking complaint: it has nothing to do with the rim and eveything to do with the build. don't knock the product for an incompentent wheel build.

Weaknesses:
none so far

Bike Setup:
Modernized '80's lugged steel Schwinn. Campy Record freewheel hubs. Front wheel DT Revolution 14/17g spokes.

Summary:
These rims have been virtually trouble-free after many hundreds of miles. I have the 28 hole versions (built them up myself) and they never have needed truing. I use them for light touring, commuting, and recreational riding.

Strengths:
Good looking, seems to be good quality. Good value. Sturdy. Not too heavy.

Weaknesses:
None that I know of.
