Strengths:    ?

Weaknesses:    durability (see above)

Bottom Line:
I bought a pair of these tires to use as a tough, puncture resistant training tire and have been sorely disappointed. In my opinion, they failed to live up to their "hardcase" name. My rear tire has a huge chunk missing from an unknown road hazard and now has a slow leak. This of course is my fault and I readily admit that but I was hoping for a little more from this tire in terms of durability. Also, the front tire has developed a bulge in the sidewall that is pulling the bead out of the rim. I discovered this yesterday after a mountain descent at speed and was shocked to see how close to disaster I had come. Cycling is dangerous enough without tires conspiring against you. I am not pleased with these tires.

Strengths:    Grip

Weaknesses:    Terrible puncture resistance, tight on the wheel

Bottom Line:
I purchased 700x28c Race Lite Hardcase tires because I read some good reviews about it and I wanted a puncture-resistant tire that can handle daily commuter rides. I have a 2010 Giant TCX 1 that I ride about 60 km per week to/from work.

In the 6 months I owned the tires, I had 4 punctures on one of the tires. Three punctures came within first three months on the rear tire. I rotated the tires then got another puncture on the front tire, which is the same tire that was punctured when it was on the rear wheel. I think all punctures were due to pieces of glass.

Besides the horrible puncture resistance, the grip was excellent, even in wet conditions. I thought they ran great but was not happy at all about the consistent punctures.

Strengths:    I'm not sure why people are saying it has bad handling. Grip in sharp turns is good and handling is fine.

Weaknesses:    Rolling resistance

Bottom Line:
This tire has quite some rolling resistance, but it's a trade off I'd make for the increased grip while taking a 25 mph rated turn at 40+ mph.

Strengths:    Extreme flat resistance. Very tough tire that is good on rough roads, manicured paths, as well as a good road. The piece of mind is well worth the slight loss in speed.

Weaknesses:    Poor high speed handling. Rough overall feeling due to the hard sidewall. High rolling resistance. Rather more difficult to mount and unmount than a standard sidewall tire.

Bottom Line:
I got a set of the 28 to replace the stock tires in order to avoid punctures as I am a heavy rider. I have used the tires on and off the road for manicured and smooth paths. The tire handles well if a bit harsh. Cornering is not as good as other tires I have used but still quite stable at slightly lower speeds.
The puncture resistance is certainly the selling point of the tire, it is bulletproof. I have over 2000 miles on the same set. I rotated them about 500 miles ago and both tires are still in excellent shape. I haven't had a single flat.
Overall for the type of riding I do it is the best tire I cold hope for. I don't ride in the rain and with a veriety of road surfaces in the area it is good to have a bulletproof tire.

Strengths:    They don't know how to flat.
Long life

Weaknesses:    Rough ride
Rolling resistance

Bottom Line:
These tires are the best training tires on the market. I have been using them for almost 2 years now and only had one flat. I cut through some construction and got a staple in the sidewall. It took me awhile to figure out I had a flat because I am so used to just riding and not even thinking about my tires. I still carry my flat kit with me, but only because I subscribe to the condom theory (better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it). I probably have close to 4,000 miles on them and plan on using them until fall apart.

They aren't great for racing, but I will still use them if it is a longer race (100+ miles) just because it is better to have peace of mind than worrying about running out of tubes due to flats. They can be a little squirrelly going through water or scum from water sitting on the pavement.

Bontrager might have made these wheels too good. They won't sell very many since they never wear out.
