Bike Setup:
Carbon, Full Dura Ace, AC CR 420 Wheels

Summary:
I received a pair of these as OEM equipment on a new bike. I experienced continuous problem with flats. Tire is easily penetrated by common road debris. Small gravel, glass, gum wrappers etc. will have you walking. The bead blew out on the front at 700 miles. I wouldn't wish these on my worst enemy.

Strengths:
Great fire starter in a survival kit.

Weaknesses:
Too many to list.

Favorite Ride:
Old La Honda

Bike Setup:
San Lorenzo, DA cranks/der, 9spd, carbon bar, American Classic 420 wheels

Summary:
This review is for the Kenda Kaliente Lite 700x23c tire. I rode these tires twice for a total of 105-6 miles. Pumped to 125psi with brand new Serfas floor pump. On the second ride, 40 miles in, the front tire failed on a downhill descent. The tread separated from the casing and the tube exploded through the treads... blowing out and rolling off one side of the rim. I crashed when I could not keep the bike upright on the front rim as the road curved. I was taken off the road by an ambulance and was hospitalized. I had surgery that evening for a broken clavicle to bolt the bone together (internal reduction fixation) as well as fractured ribs. The helmet saved my life. I will recover in 6-12 months (hopefully).

I subsequently found out from the wheel company that supplied the tires and Kenda that the tire was discontinued for "Tread separation" or "Casing separation" warranty problems. The tire was not recalled, but has been discontinued from distribution and pulled from large customers and distributors (weeks to months before my accident). If you have Kenda road tires, especially the Kaliente Lite, do NOT ride them another block. Think hard before purchasing a Kenda tire considering their questionable safety approach to customers and potential manufacturing and quality problems.

Strengths:
Light, Good road feel until it blows up.

Weaknesses:
Flawed tire. No warning that it is going to fail. The tread and casing threads failed simulateously. Should have been fully recalled, not just discontinued.
Kenda Product Manager said that over 500 have failed from 150,000 produced (not sure how many were riden). That's .333%. He said they wait until 2% to recall and the tire was discontinued to avoid a recall situation 6 months from now.

AVOID KENDA ROAD TIRES
