Bike Setup: giant tcr carbon, dura ace / ultegra, ksyrium elite, easton ec70 bar/stem, fizik arione saddle
Summary: maxxis detonator; aptly named ! bought these for my giant tcr about 2 months ago. were a good price and thought i'd give them a try. had less than 1000 miles on them. last night in the middle of a 50 miler my back tire detonated leaving me stranded 15 miles from my car, the smooth center tread completely separated from the side wall tread peeling back a 3 inch long gash exposing the casing and badly distorting the tire on the rim. luckily i was on a relitively flat route when this happened & not flying down a hill. tire showed no indication of damage prior to peeling apart. will not be buying maxxis again. going back to rubino pro's which lasted about 2300 miles on chip seal roads
Strengths: seemed like a tough durable tire prior to peeling apart.
Weaknesses: 3 piece tread construction may be a contributing factor. ride was not smooth compared to michelin krylion, vittoria rubino pro

Bike Setup: GTR series 4, hollow tech 2 cranks, alex rim alx 220 rims, carbon fork, carbon seat post, carbon water bottle holder.( other things i cant think of since im too tired , just got hom from a ride on these tires haha)
Summary: Overall I was extremely impressed with these tires. I have ridden numerous products from both continental and michelin and to date these have provided the most comfortable riding experience out of all the tires I have used. The 120 PSI provides just the right Rigidity without risking comfort or leaving you feeling like someone just kicked your rear end with a steel toed boot countless times after a ride. The added low rolling resistance is a plus. I have so far ridden these tires 200+ miles and have not had a single flat yet.
Strengths: Rolling resistance,price,durability,comfort level.
Weaknesses: Not as fast as some tires but that can be overlooked considering other tires are more prone to flats.

Summary: Had size 700x28 installed. With reflective sidewalls. Rode it on a tour at Sulawesi for distance almost 900km in a period of 13 days. Bike is full laden at rear with luggage bags. As sulawesi road was not so good, there are lots of potholes and unpaved sections throughout the journey, I thought it would be good to bring a spare tyre as well. But amazingly it performed well. Had only 1 flat tyre after hitting 1 pothole but the tyre can still be used.
Strengths: looks good, road holding reasonable, withstand strong inpact on bad roads and holes, very long lsting, even after 900km of the journey it still has a lot of threads
Weaknesses: coldnt find any yet.. I ve done 2000 km on it.

Summary: They look good but don't hold up well. After one season the tire split. Not a fun experience on a evening ride. Also dangerous on wet roads. I bought the Detonators to replace my slicks (Vittoria Rubio Pro’s). Wanting something with a little more traction for training, I should have stayed with the slicks.
Strengths: looks
Weaknesses: everything else

Summary: Love the stickability of these tyres, wet or dry. Have had over 3500 kms from many of these tyres, and have them on 3 bikes now. For a cheaper tyre, they roll well, ride well and last well. What more is there?
Strengths: Ride well, roll well, last well, and are priced well.
Weaknesses: None found yet.
