Bottom Line:
I'm the Product Manager for tires from Specialized, and frankly I don't like what I read here. I don't say it's not valid, I just want to improve the product. If you're unhappy with your Specialized tires, send me an e-mail. I'm more than happy to reply whether your experience is positive OR negative.

I've responded with 3's in the review section only because the site requires a response, trying not to skew results.

Strengths:    High mileage, puncture resistance, durability, low rolling resistance.

Weaknesses:    None

Bottom Line:
I have liked these tires. Low rolling resistance, good wear (2500 miles now, rotated twice) and no punctures. Unlike Michelins I have owned, there has been no delamination of tread or bulging sidewalls. They go on and off my rims easily, too, unlike the Michelins which were a struggle. Have not ridden in the rain, so I can't vouch for wet weather handling, but they are stable down hills (have hit 50mph on them). Pretty squared off now, probably only a few hundred miles left. Noticed a lot of less than stellar reviews of the tires here, but I have had nothing but good luck with these.

Strengths:    rolling resistance.
history.

Weaknesses:    Puncture resistance. 1 flat per 200 miles on clean california roads. Vredesteins have gone over 2000 with 1 flat.

Rim retention - they blow off rim often when pressured above 100 psi (although rated to 130). Dozens of times per year. Never have the Vredsteins done this in 3 months.

Difficulty installing on rim, even though they blow of easily. Michelins are hard to install, but they stick. The Vredesteins are easy to install by hand, and they stay on the rim. The Specialized have the worst of both, hard to install on the rim by hand with out using tire levers, but they blow off the rim jurt sitting in the office.

Bottom Line:
Ten years ago these were the best. I stuck with Specialized despite the quality problems. Now I realize that the performance has declined dramatically also. Now that I have used the Michelin Axials and Vredestein TriComps for 3 months, I realize how bad a tire the Specialized are.

Strengths:    Specialized is great for warranty

Weaknesses:    Why bother, They ride like doo-doo. Can't trust 'em. And I really don't like the way they stick, either

Bottom Line:
These tires were supplied from the factory as I was having trouble with the Armadillo version. I called Specialized, they sent some replacement armadillos.(the others lost their sidewalls.) Factory defect. The replacements had problems as well. Last chance, they asked if they could send maybe something else. I said how about some of the turbos for my race bike. Put them on, and one immediatly had tread bulge. Found another (older) replacement, Rode the set for the last several months. Today I saw a sidewall bulge in the rear. Off they went, I am back to Conti 3000's

Strengths:    Puncture Resistance

Weaknesses:    Harsh ride

Bottom Line:
I have wear out of these and had no problems others have, very few punctures, high mileage, ride a bit harsh but I find that no problem as I only ride on them at 110PSi (I weigh 150).

I also use the Specialized S Works Tyres on my racing bike. In fact I have done over 3000km on these with only a hand full of punctures.

Would reccommend either tyre to anyone.
