Product Description

Training tire features twin tread design for durability and excellent cornering. Hard tread is placed in the center where the wear occurs, while shoulders are made of a softer compound for unparalled cornering. Puncture-resistant belting is placed under the tread to ensure greater durability while maintaining lower rolling resistance.

Strengths:    Good for the price

Weaknesses:    Not very durable

Bottom Line:
Tires were good for the first year, but suddenly I started getting flats on every ride. They didn't last as long as I had hoped

Strengths:    Durable over rough surfaces. Good wet weather performance.

Weaknesses:    Before the tire is really worn it is starting to fall apart.

Bottom Line:
I have put about 2000 miles on these tires and have been pretty pleased. I've ridden roads, shoulders, gnarly bike trails and gravel paths with them and they held up fairly well. Not particularly fast tires. I am 175 lbs. and usually ride them at 100 psi.
At 2000 miles I have recently had 3 flats on the rear. When my tires start to flat every few rides I change tires. These don't look particularly worn yet however the sidewall at the wheel interface is starting to fray (threads pealing off out of the rubber) and deep splits are starting to appear between the harder road surface rubber and the grippy, softer sidewall rubber. I don't need a major blow-out at 45 mph. Time to change tires.

Strengths:    Good when new.

Weaknesses:    Roadfeel lacks compared to Michelin carbons I've used. Didn't last as many miles as I hoped for.

Bottom Line:
These tires came with a new bike and initially performed well. At around 800 miles I got my first flat and then had several more over the next 400 miles, all on the rear tire. By 1200 miles the tread was gone in three places on the rear, although the front looks like it will make it to 2000 miles.

Strengths:    No punctures, corners fine with lots of grip in the dry & I weigh 210lb.
There much cheaper to buy now.

Weaknesses:    Bit slippery in the wet but then aren't most tyres when you push it too the limit in street conditions.

Bottom Line:
These came on my genesis Day02 flat bar bike that I use for getting around town/shopping/visiting friends so the roads are usually of a sub-standard level. The tyres had already done about 2K miles when I bought it and have done another 1500 since. I've had 1 puncture and I've hit some pretty tough ruts/holes as well as the usual broken glass.

Strengths:    apparent impermeability, speed, longevity, easy to mount without being scary-loose (a-la serfas seca), aesthetics

Weaknesses:    weight (only a touch heavy due to kevlar puncture strip), not perfectly round when new (they round out quickly), inevitable indecision due to available color selections, ride can be a bit lively

Bottom Line:
What can I say? I'm nearly 200lbs, ride downtown Toronto every day, and am rather agressive - I tend to blow through more potholes and rifts in the street than I avoid. I used to ride a '97 Mongoose IBOC Pro SX with Judy's on the front, and flatted with much greater frequency (The only flat on these tires I've actually sustained was running over a rusty, discarded presta valve that had been ripped out of someone's tire, ans speared my rubino right through the cornering compound), and I actually ride more aggrerssively on my road bike now than I ever did on my 'Goose.

I've got these on both of my bikes, both of which are set up fixed-gear, both sets of tires with in the neighborhood of 2000-3000 downtown kilometers, and I just can't kill these tires. For what they're worth they roll fast too - not as plush as my el-cheapo vittoria Rally tubulars (althought the GP4 rims that those are on are more significantly lighter, flexier and compliant than my velocity clincher rims that the Rubinos are on, so it's not a fair comparison), but better in the corners, and I'm less paranoid about flatting on them (changing tubulars is tedious).

These are hard working tires that would do admirable duty as a long-rolling race training tire.
