When cyclocross competitions are on hard, smooth surfaces, the XN is in a class of its own. Dot C.O.M. Vector design diamond pattern with carefully studied diamond height and shape for top performance. Hybrid Cotton K 220 TPI casing (cotton thread and Kevlar). Excellent comfort, great strength.

Strengths:    Suspended MTB like ride

Weaknesses:    Quick wearing on the road (it is probably fine in CX, it's intended use) and I wouldn't use the casing as a bulletproof jacket.

Bottom Line:

This is definitely not a road tire. When I decided to build a commuter I (maybe unwisely) decided to go with tubulars. I figured that the ride would be better and that I could deal with fixing the flats with some Stan's No Tubes sealant and carrying a spare tire. I went with these tires due to the volume. A 32 mm tire should ride like butter and these really do ride nicely. I figured the diamond tread would be efficient enough and the kevlar casing would hold up to the abuse that my local roads would put the through. After rolling over a fair amount of safety glass, I thought these tires would hold up nicely as they didn't puncture. I hadn't put any sealant in and suffered my first flat after 2 weeks. I put some sealant in and went about my business. A week or so later I ran over a rock about 20 miles from home and it went right through the casing and put a big old hole in my tube. The casing was done after this. I tried patching it, but the casing was so badly torn that it has a bubble that isn't fun to ride. The center of the tread is just about gone as well. The front tire, however is holding up just fine. Given the chance to start over, I wouldn't choose these for a road bike of any sort. If I get a CX bike, I might consider something like these for hard pack, however.
