Price Paid:  $625.00 at Julio Cycles, Chappa

Favorite Ride:
Mount Kisco Road to King Street in Chappaqua, NY

Bike Setup:
Giant TCR Carbon, Ultegra/105/FSA

Summary:
I have about 800 miles on these now and they have been excellent for everything from stand up sprints and climbing to spinning away on long flats. They were custom built by Paul of Julio Cycles; an old school racer who takes a lot of pride in his work. The setup is DT Swiss 240s hubs, DT Revolution spokes, DT 1.1 rim, Michelin Krylion Carbon tires, and race tubes. The lacing is full radial front and radial non-drive/3x drive side in the rear (2008 DT Swiss 240s road hubs can be ordered premachined for this setup). The wheelset alone weighs in at a scant 1,450 grams and the difference is very noticeable over Ksyriums and other such machine built wheelsets. While these are probably not as stiff as those sets, they are lighter and much more comfortable for long rides. The stiffness, however, has not been a problem for me and I'm a 186-190 lb. stand-up masher who loves all out sprints. Finally, I got red alloy nipples to match my bike so they look beautiful in a very classic Carme du Roseau kind of way.

Strengths:
Comfortable, stiff enough to race, excellent strength to weight ratio (good builder required for this), beautiful classic looks

Weaknesses:
Marginally less rigid than race level machine built wheelsets, Not aero enough for triathlons longer than Olympic distance, requires that you do some research and find a very experienced builder who matches spoke tension/lacing to your weight and riding style. You're better off with machine built sets unless you find a top-notch builder.

Price Paid:  $0.00 at Machinery Row, Madis

Favorite Ride:
Anywhere is western Dane County, Wisconsin

Bike Setup:
Seven Elium SG with Full Campy Record

Summary:
I researched out various wheels and opted to have a set of DT 240 hubs built on the DT R1.2 rims with DT spokes. The wheels were built by Dave Thomas at Machinery Row in Madison,Wi (awesome builder). They are about as perfect a whhel as I could envision!! The ride characteristic is a unique blend of stiffness and compliance. In my opinion, I have never had a set of wheels perform as well as this set. There is NO hesitation in power transfer when you step on the gas. They absorb shock amazingly well and they are absolutely beautiful to look at. I have had some performance oriented wheelsets and these beat everything,...hands down!! The service and knowledge at the LBS was on par with the quality of the wheels.

Strengths:
Stiffness, yet compliant. They are a climbers dream. They are as expensive as the carbon wheelsets. Did I say they were fast?

Weaknesses:
None that I can see at this point!!!

Price Paid:  $600.00 at internet

Favorite Ride:
long and steady

Bike Setup:
ORBEA ORCA, CAMPY CHORUS, FSA PLASMA BAR, FSA K FORCE CRANKS, ZERO GRAVITY BRAKES, DTSWISS 240 WRAPPED IN FORTEZZAS

Summary:
Well worth the money!!! Was using Spinergy xero's and krysirums. Sold the krysirums and used the spinegies for a year before I found something I was interested in. Looked and rode a set of American classics 350's but having campy equipment I did not feel the special wheel build because of dishing was not what I wanted to go through. with the 28 count lace front and rear with DT 240 hubs/1.1 rims gives me easy interchange with a freehub purchase to shimano if i chose to sell or change(NOT). Found the wheels exeptional smooth and easy rolling. I weigh at 170 and put them through some climbing and hard excelleration with no problems or flex. These things are fast on excelleration and climbing and smooth when you stand to stretch those legs on those long climbs. I am extemely satisfied and would suggest these to anyone looking for all around/race/club/climbing rides. GREAT BUY!!

Strengths:
VERY SMOOTH AND LIGHT WHEELSET

Weaknesses:
NOT BUILT WITH BLADED SPOKES

Similar Products Used:
SPINERGY XERO 1'S, KRYSIRIUMS ELITES AND SSLS, AMERICAN CLASSICS 350

These are great wheels. They are soooo light. The great hubs and the lightweight make these things accelerate like rockets. They almost climb by themselves.

Mine are 240s hubs on RR1.1 rims with revolution spokes. They are fast!!!

Strengths:
The hubs!! There is nothing better.
Lightweight, silky smooth

Weaknesses:
Aerodynamics
