Product Description

Weight: 1020 The Lightweight Obermayer possesses all of the technical and performance virtues of the Standard wheelset, but it shaves precious grams through upgrades to both the hub and the rim. The Obermayer rear wheel uses the Tune Mag 160 hub with a carbon fiber axle, which provides both stiffness and lightness. It's one of the world's very lightest hubs. The carbon front hub uses Lightweight's proprietary super-light bearings which have proven successful in all of their wheelsets. Special high-precision bearings keep drag to an absolute minimum, and the specially-formulated grease that lubricates them reduces drag even further. The Obermayer rim has a completely different lay-up, and it allows even less material to be used for a wheel that provides stiffness equal to that of the Standard. The same lens-shaped spokes, integrated magnet, and microchip technology are also in place with with Obermayer. The Obermayer comes 12 spokes front, 20 rear. The wheelset weighs 1020g, exactly 100g less than the Standard. Lightweight wheels do not have a weight limit. A heavy rider can ride a 12-spoke front without concern for the durability of the wheels. Lightweight does, however, have suggested weight ranges in terms of providing optimum performance. Since the primary virtue of Lightweight wheels is their stiffness, the weight recommendations for their wheels outline at what body weights a top level rider will find ideal stiffness under racing conditions. Lightweight believes the stiffness characteristics of their 12-spoke front Obermayer wheel is best actualized by riders at or below 176lbs.

Strengths:    light and aero

Bottom Line:
Very stiff and light wheels offering amazing acceleration. Watch out for the front hub flanges: they are high and may rub against the inside of your forks so check this out first before you buy.

Strengths:    Stiff, wimpy, efficient, comfortable, fast, forgiving, accurate

Weaknesses:    none

Bottom Line:
Great wheels, I have ridden many different wheels clinchers and tubulars. Tubulars are definitely superior and if you pick the right one you don't get flat more often that with a great set of tire. Not even harder to fix. Just be prepare as with anything else.
Great hubs, and the german engineering is good and strong.
Expensive but you will live only once better pick than enything else, forget about a car, a suit, a watch ...
