Reynolds DV46 C wheelsets - clincher

4.22/5 (9 Reviews)
MSRP : $2249.00

Product Description

The Stratus Deep-V clincher rim is unique due to its one-piece construction. Unidirectional carbon fiber rim is incredibly stiff yet still has great dampening qualities. In pursuit of lightweight strength, Reynolds continues to eschew the glossy cosmetic outer weave that does nothing to enhance the performance of the wheel.

Strengths:    I live in Brooklyn and ride these as my daily commuter wheels. I jump these off curbs and hit pot holes occasionally and these are still true. I've had them for about 4 months now. Love em. lightweight. Got a great deal on them on ebay for 700, these were 2k+ new. These come with great dt swiss 240 hubs also. great wheelset.

Weaknesses:    none thus far.

Bottom Line:
love em. The DT Swiss hubs sound awesome also.

Bottom Line:
These wheels are the bomb. I purchased the 2010 edition of these wheels, and they are beautifully made, with DT Swiss hubs (DT 240s) and high modulus carbon rims that are on par with my Edge Composites 45s. Nothing but quality here. Great riding wheels, fast accelerating and honest weight claims at 1380g.

Bottom Line:
Wheels work great. Aero, light, stiff and look cool. I'm 6' 200 lbs. No melting of rims here. Just go fast on the flats as well as climb. Straight and true. I've raced with them too.

Strengths:    Fast on flats and 1-3% descents.
Look great
Reynold's stood behind them
reasonable weight for deep v rim

Weaknesses:    Melt with intense braking.
Lousy braking
tough in crosswinds
noisy(creaking)
expensive

Bottom Line:
Although this wheel has some great attributes, overall it is a lousy investment. I have melted the rear rim twice while descending steep technical hills. I am 6'1" and 200 lbs. but they do not put a weight restriction on them. Reynold's stood beside the product and replaced the rim both times but it took a long time. The braking is terrible. They are also terrible in a crosswind. After the second melting, with the terrible braking and the lousy riding in crosswinds, I lost tons of confidence on steep descents and wasn't having fun. I finally gave up on them and am very happily on a pair of Fulcrum racing one's. They (the reynolds) are also very creaky/noisy (Not just the sound of a deep carbon wheel).

Strengths:    Light, durable, easy to maintain

Weaknesses:    Price, internal nippels

Bottom Line:
Reynolds DV46C is one of the best carbon clinchers on the market. They hold up very well and believe me I ride on less than medium quality roads. I use them as an everyday wheels set and so far they've been fantastic. I've ridden them in up to 25mph wind but even then they performed very well.

Reynolds DV46 C UL vs MV32 C UL???

I have the opportunity to purchase either the DV46's or MV32's (clincher) and I'm not sure which way to go. I already have a superlight race tubular wheelset and set of Spinergy FCC Full Carbon clinchers for training that weigh in at 1615gm. I can sell the Spinergy's and get the DV's for $1600 or ...
