Good looking wheels. Adds 'cool' factor to bike. Price seems fair. Weight is reasonable. Alloy outer rim 'bonded' to inner carbon ring appears to be a solution to failure problems related to full carbon clincher wheels (brake surface heats up under heavy braking, softens the resin in the carbon, weakens the sidewall, tire blows off of rim).
Potentially dangerous. The spokes do not extend from the hub, through the carbon ring, out to the alloy rim. They terminate in the carbon ring. If the 'bond' between the alloy outer rim and the carbon inner ring fails, and the alloy rim then separates from the carbon, the result could be a crash resulting in serious injury. To anyone who has been using these wheels for any length of time or distance, I would advise checking them.
Bought these wheels from LBS for $900.00 CDN (+ tax). Very happy with wheels for first season of use and put about 5,000 km on them with no visible issues. Then, while on an easy group ride, I was suddenly slammed onto the road. My first and only road bike crash in over 50,000 km of riding. Result was a fractured pelvis plus sprained wrists and deep cuts and abrasions all around my body. Didn't see the bike or wheels again until after I got home from the hospital. The rear wheel's alloy outer rim was separated from the carbon inner ring. The 'bond' (glue?) holding the alloy rim to the carbon ring had let go.
