Product Description

  • During acceleration, the mass at the outer edge of the wheel has an effective inertia of roughly twice of the wheel"s total weight. Head to head 400 meters before the finish line, our XLR Airy can help you jump in front of your opponent for victory.
  • The XLR Airy is made of special alloy 622-16, we utilize this super light weight material without compromising the structure strength. With 16/20H spoke design and our light weight alloy hub RB68/210, we bring down the wheel set weight to an amazing total of 1430 grams.

Strengths:    Weight -- not bad at 1420
Looks -- if you like silver wheels
    Easy to put tires on
Stable at speed - 45mph downhill was fine
    Price, if you shop aggressively

Weaknesses:    Stickers pick up dirt like crazy
    Reliability? Who knows
Some pulsing while braking - only temporary

    Bottom Line:
I bought these for *very* short change on eBay, and my review is based entirely with that pricepoint in mind. These wheels are light, 10spd only, and have been fine for 2500 miles. I am 6' 155lbs so that's well within any weight limit on cycling gear. For the first 100 miles the front wheel pulsed under braking, but then smoothed out and has been 100% fine ever since. For anything near the retail price I can't say I'd be as happy, as too many other options are available for that kind of money. But for a cheap climber or race wheel, I am pressed to find fault in these unit.s

Strengths:    Very lite weight for the price. 1,420 gms/set. Coupled with a Token Ti 120 gram cassette, these wheels spin up fast and are great hill climbers.

Weaknesses:    Comes with a new 10 speed only freehub. I had a machine shop shave down the freehub ribs to accomodate my 9 speed cassette and Dura Ace set-up. Easy fix for $20!

    Bottom Line:
THis is my third set of Xero wheels. Previous 2 sets were xr-1's, which are great lite wheels for the money (1,520gms). THe Airy XLR's are stiffer, lighter (1,420gms), great looking, and still ride great. Rider is 170lbs.
