I swapped our a pair of HED Stinger S4 for a pair of the newer style Boyd 44's. Custom built by Mason Cycle Werks with White Industry T11 hubs.
I have been riding these wheels for a few months and can say that I am sold on them. After riding a few high quality, expensive wheels I can honestly say that these are one of the best carbon wheels I have had the pleasure to ride. They are light, fast, durable and with the T11 hubs one would be hard pressed to find a better wheelset. I forgot to mention that they look great also. Spent $1700.00 for the custom built set.

Review is for Boyd Carbon Clincher 38's. Had I posted a review a month or two into ownership of this product, I would have given ratings of 4 or 5. Every product is great out of the box. Its two years later and now for the real review.
Around three months after first using these wheels, the rear wheel developed side to side play. Tightening the hub did very little as this problem was due machining defects. Soon after this came the skipping problems. Then the truing issues popped up. I weigh 155 lbs. The wheels were somewhat functional during all this until I hit around 1,800 miles. Then the real problems began. The brake tracks started breaking down. After 1,800 light miles of mostly flat road riding in Texas and these wheels already gave out? After contacting Boyd, his response was "oh well." He did offer a discount on a new wheelset but I declined that. Why would I want to revisit these problems again later down the road? The best option was to throw these wheels in the old parts bin box and chalk this up as a learning experience.

The lesson here? Don't waste your money on no-name wheels and stick to the good stuff. Zipp, Enve, HED, Reynolds...you get what you pay for.

Spin up speed, durability and value

None to date.

I've had these wheels for roughly 6 months and have close to 1.5k miles on them. I have ridden them through varied road (smooth, chip seal, pot holes) and weather (dry, wet) conditions and they have performed extremely well. They have remained true, spin up incredibly fast and hold speed.

They've pretty much replaced my other wheels (Kysrium SL's) unless it's raining.

In terms of the company, Boyd and his team provide great customer service which is key with any purchase.

If you're looking for a "do it all" set of wheels at a great price point, you should highly consider these wheels.

A little hard to put on tires

These wheels are fantastic, they are worth three times their retail price. They are very fast, durable, and light for their size. Boyd did a great job designing and building them. I would recommend them to everyone. I am very satisfied with them and they look great!

I've had these wheels for about a year and a half and have around 2000 miles on them. I use them in the low country of South Carolina where the roads are flat and smooth. I noticed a definite improvement as a result of the aerodynamics without suffering from cross wind problems. I have had no problems. They stay true and I haven't had any broken or bent spokes. The quality seems solid. The ride is typically smooth from carbon. They are good wheels and a nice value. After getting these wheels I was better able to maintain speed and pace lines with faster riders. They are the only wheels I use on this bike now. They are very nice for centuries and longer rides. I haven't used them for any significant climbing, but imagine they would be fine as they are light
