Price Paid:  $0.00 at Tenafly Bicycle Work

Favorite Ride:
Any

Bike Setup:
Stock w/rigid seatpost (dumped the lousy suspension post).
Added Trek rear rack and Vaude panniers.

Summary:
The EC 7 is a comfortable, versatile and durable bike for riding around town. Equipped with a rack and panniers it makes a perfect utility bike for errands and commuting.

The Nexus hub enables you to shrug off wet weather and cassette maintenance; and the range of gears will allow you to tackle any hill. However, the EC 7 is best suited for flatter rides. For a cruiser, it really shines when ridden in traffic. The internally geared hub allows shifting when stopped. Why aren't these hubs spec'd on more recreational bikes? IG hubs rock!

I own four bikes and the EC 7 is ridden the most. The retro-look frame tubing is cool, but I think Jamis changed the frameset for 2002. Bad decision if you ask me. Get a 2001 if you can find one.

5 stars for value, 4 stars overall.

Strengths:
Reasonably light weight aluminum frame.
Nexus 7-speed IGH (love the IGH!!).
Cantilever & roller brakes work great.
Chainguard is a nice touch.
Quiet derailleur-free ride.

Weaknesses:
Stock suspension seatpost sucked.
Stock pedals lasted four days.
Heavy (but tough) wheelset.
Wish it came with fenders....

Price Paid:  $350.00

Favorite Ride:
Country Roads

Bike Setup:
Stock, except for a new Terry Liberator saddle.

Summary:
Seven Speed internal hub is great, but the stock saddle is a torture device and
the reach from the seat to the wide handlebars is an unconfortable stretch.

Strengths:
Seven speed hub. Smooth and so far trouble free. I've ridden
fifty miles a week on average for the last 8 weeks on this bike and
no problems. Hybrid tires are also nice, and apparently tough.

Weaknesses:
Saddle. Riding position. For a bike positioned as a
Comfort vehicle this on has a long way to go. I notice
that the 2002 model has a new frame geometry, so perhaps
this has been recognized.

Similar Products Used:
Old Classic cruiser bikes, Trek 7200.
