Price Paid:  $800.00 at Performance Bike

Bike Setup:
Factory, except new Flite Gel seat.

Summary:
I shopped around for about 4 weeks trying to find the best bang for the buck. This bike is hands down the best value. I sent a request to www.respond.com and a bike dealer in Florida was blowing out this bike for $800, I then went to my local bike shop for a price match. I paid less for this bike than the cost of an Ultegra build kit. I have put about 500 miles on the bike with no problems at all. This bike is ideal for someone that is looking top get on a quality road bike with a great component group. There are better frames out there, but not better deals.

Strengths:
Great component group.
Good, light weight frame.

Weaknesses:
Quick frame is a little unstable at hight speeds

Similar Products Used:
Klein, GT,

Price Paid:  $1300.00 at The Sportsman

Bike Setup:
Stock

Summary:
I've been riding the Comet now for about 5 months and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I shopped around, most of the winter and spring, to find an excellent bike that wouldn't break my college budget. I could not pass up the Comet for the components that it came with. I feel the Time pedals, Ultegra componentry, and cxp 33's are worth the money. I usually ride it 3 times a week for atleast 40 miles and it is no more of a rough ride than anything else I have tried. I'll be racing it in the Cache century(100mile race) this week, and I'm training to race in a 203 mile race from Logan to Jackson Hole Wyoming in a few short weeks. I feel the Comet is not only a good cruising bike for the flats, but an excellent bike up and down canyons.

Strengths:
components, components, components. I love the frame. It just looks fast.

Weaknesses:
Riding uphill for 27 miles straight almost makes me want the triple up front, but cranking down hill at 50+ mph. makes me appreciate the double.

Bike Setup:
Factory setup

Summary:
You really can't beat this bike for the price - I know I tried! The best you can do elsewhere for this price is 105 not ultegra. I found the frame to be a bit twitchy if i lean forward a bit, but that is the only complaint I have. If you don't like the frame throw it out and buy a nice italian one and you will still be getting a great deal on the rest of the parts. The bike is very fast, quick on sprints and hills. It has a very smooth drivetrain, nice shifting. If you are lucky you still may be able to get a deal on this bike since it is a 1999. Check with a dealer. I got a good discount on mine.

Strengths:
Components & wheels, price!!

Weaknesses:
Frame is a bit twitchy

Cannondale, Miyata road bikes

Bike Setup:

full shimano ultegra

Summary:
After getting frustrated with outrages prices of top name brands a local bike
shop owner helped me find a bike with the same components, yet at a better
price because it wasn't a well known brand. I love my Jamis Comet. Its stiff enough
to throw into a tight corner and sprint yet not too stiff that i have to break when I do over 50 miles in a ride.

Strengths:

components
frame design
stiffness

Weaknesses:

collects dirt in air foil fork

Similar Products Used:

trek 2500
cannondale 2000
Marin
Klein Quantum

Bike Setup:

Bebop pedals (light! easy to get in and out of and tons of float)
Terry Ti Race seat

Summary:
I checked out just about everthing at/under $1800. I got this bike for $1230 w/full ultegra component group, mavic cxp33 wheels, cane creek aheadset, time pedals, thompson elite seat post,3t bar and stem all standard for what other manufacturers were asking for 105 equipped bikes. Great deal, I can't believe they don't sell more. The ride is great. I thought with the aluminum aero front fork it would be punishing but it's not. No worse than my last bike which had an aluminum frame but carbon fiber fork and seat post (Giant tcr2r). Great acceleration/stiff frame under load and handling is quick without being twitchy. If you are looking for a road bike at or about $1200 bucks you gotta look at this bike, it's a killer deal. Jamis isn't a big name in road bikes but if you find one, buy it.

Strengths:

component selection
value
great looking aero frame and fork

Weaknesses:

handle bar is a bit narrow in 55cm size

Similar Products Used:

Giant TCR2R
Raleigh R700
Klein Quantum
etc. etc.
