Bike Setup: 2001 Specialized S Works Festina, M4 Aluminum frame, KSyrium SSC SL wheels, full Dura Ace 7700 series group. I am currently upgrading drive train to 10 spd. New sey up will have DA 7800 crank and BB,Ultegra cassette:( , SRAM Force dbl tap shifters, SRAM 1090 chain, and SRAM Red rear derailuer. Also adding FSA SL K carbon race bars.
Summary: I have a set of KSYRIUM SSC SL wheels that came with the 2001 Specialized S Works I bought on KSL.com in SLC,UT. I recently ran over my bike with a Nissan
Frontier pick up, straight over the fron wheel and Time carbon fork! The only damage my front wheel sustained was a demolished skewer and a slightly damaged skewer guide/axle cap. The wheel was less than 1/4" out of true total side to side! It is fine now and my carbon fork suffered no damage at all!
Strengths: These are bad ass tuff wheels!
Weaknesses: None that I can see.

Summary: These wheels were on the bike when I bought it and I was surprised at the quality of them. I've hit some nasty pot-holes and tree branches with them and no damage to me or the wheels. I love them and wish I could get them for my next bike. They're built solid, never seem to come out of true and are just plain trouble-free.
Strengths: Strong, well-made. Won't come out of true easily.
Weaknesses: Spokes are hard to replace..but shouldn't need replacing anyway.

Summary: I own a pair of mavic ssc clincher wheelset. Very light and responsive. Have a problem with the rear wheel spokes loosening up. Try to retrue the wheel but a couple spokes i can't tighten because the whole spokes turn when ever i tighten the spokes nipple. Only rode these wheels for about 5000 miles. For the price of these wheels i think it should be a better product. I have other much cheaper wheels which i rode for years and never had to retrue.
These wheels came on my Fuji SL1 bike.

Bike Setup: Bianchi 928L - w Campag 11spd. Cannondale CAAD 8 - w Shimano Ultegra
Summary: I own two sets of these wheels. One set with a shimano ultegra set-up on a CAAD8 and the other set with a campagnolo setup on a Bianchi 928. I love these wheels. I picked the one set up for the 450 on Ebay and I paid more at my LBS for the first set. Thus far they are true and solid. They look and feel fast. I rotate wheelsets on both my bikes and therefore they do not get constant everyday wear. I am also very careful to monitor wear and adjustment of the hubs and spokes. I pay attention to the road in front of me whenever possible. If I am on bad roads with these wheels, I am more cautious than on a smooth tarmac. I have been in pacelines with them and hit the unforseen pothole and they have remained unscathed. I also own a set of ES's and have had no concerns thus far.
Strengths: Looks, weight, solidity, spoke config.
Weaknesses: Possibly theif magnets.
Similar Products Used: Bontrager RaceLites, Cane Creek Strados, Shimano 550s.

Summary: Had a set of SSC SL's, rode them for 6 months. Heard a clicking one day. After inspecting, the rear rim had 6 x 1/4" cracks, 2 per each of 3 spokes. Returned to Mavic. they replaced the rim, but used all of the old parts, spokes, hub, etc. Quality? During a sprint, the rim was touching brakepads. Their answer was to de-tension so reduce stress (proof of inferior metal?) to the point of being useless. Up they went on ebay. Replaced with Dura Ace 7801, 15,000 miles now, never trued yet. Bought mountain bike, had Crossmax SL's. Used as a commuter bike, never been off road. Within 3 months, broke a spoke on the rear. Up on ebay they went. Replaced with new XTR. Again, very happy with Shimano products. I have experienced others with similar experiences. In club rides, Mavics are always popping spokes. Mavic barely stands behind their product and I will never buy again, I also tell others to beware and to consider Shimano, Fulcrum, etc. Research I have done shows Mavic is using inferior/cheap alloys in wheels, lightness is #1, duability = 0. Buyer beware !!!!!
Strengths: Mavics are good wheels ... if you are sponsored by them.
