Summary:

Bike rides fine, 7 speed is great, comfort fair.

Strengths:

Sturdy, goes down the road nicely, the 7 speed is a great option.

Weaknesses:

I wish this was still made in the USA, the fit od parts is sad to put it politely. The front headlight isn't even close to being centered properly, the rear fender isn't stamped correctly either. The bike rides good but on close inspection you wonder how so many obvious flaws can be on a bike at this price..

Price Paid:  $538.00 at Local Schwinn Dealer

Favorite Ride:
City Park

Bike Setup:
Stock, with added vintage speedometer, rear reflector, rear brake light, added womens tank and horn, replaced grips with "phantom" grips, hubcaps. And lastly my "Leave it to Beaver" hat!

Summary:
This review is for the Schwinn Cruiser Deluxe 7, made in 2004 and comes in a two tone package. Simply put, this is a wonderfull bicycle! I started looking for a comfortable bike as a way of exercising and burning off stress. I bought a pair (mens and ladies models) of the cruiser deluxe 7's when I took my old Peugeot in for service and I saw them on the dealer floor. It has to be the most comfortable bicycle that I have EVER ridden! Since I am not in the best shape physically, the lower gears really come in handy when riding up the really steep hills, but when coasting down the other side you can shift up to 7 and really put some distance behind you! I don't believe that this bicycle was ever intended as a racer. This is the bike that you take out on a bright and shiny Sunday afternoon with the wife and kids and enjoy the fresh air and a warm sunny day! Lastly, let me point out that since the ladies model does not come with a horn and tank like the men's does, I purchased an original ladies tank from 1957 on ebay and with a little adjustment it fits just fine! Other accessories that are not mentioned are a tail light that has three settings (on, off, and braking) in which the brake setting has a small device that switches the light on while slowing down and off when peddaling. A little ball rolls forward for on and back for off. Really ingenious! Also, some of the original "phantom" accessories will fit these bikes such as the rear reflector. Get rid of the modern reflectors and put on the period stuff!

Strengths:
Style, Style and more Style! Indeed, with all of the cookie cutter bicycles out there, this bike is just right for people who want a bicycle that just LOOKS GOOD and is sturdy and reliable. In my opinion, the weight of this bicycle is a bonus that adds to a softer cushier ride. When you have finished your ride your back side doesn't feel like you have been sitting on a concrete bench all afternoon! The seven speed gears work perfectly. It offers a terrific opportunity for customizers who always wanted that Schwinn but never got one for themselves! Super paintjob! Real thick and stands up to the ocasional scuff. White wall tires look great! Their attention to detail is awesome. The headlight is also VERY bright!

Weaknesses:
Availability of add on parts. Most are available on ebay or other web sites, but if you want to find touch up paint- you are out of luck unless you go to an automobile paint shop who can custom match it for you. For years the Schwinns were made in Chicago, but alas today they are no longer made in the USA. I would definity LOVE it if Schwinn would continue to make the add on parts! Especially paint and decals.

Similar Products Used:
Similar products that I have used would be my first cruiser when I was 6 years old. It had the same style of frame. My moms three speed. But neither one of these come close to the experience on this bicycle!

Favorite Ride:
Schwinn Cruiser Deluxe 7

Bike Setup:
Stock and loaded.

Summary:
I've ridden many cruisers over my time and this one is the most comfortable and fun to ride.

The Shimano components are a nifty and useful add-on to a nostalgic cruiser like this one.

My bike has a neat light and a horn too just like the old Phantoms. This bike has admirers young and old.

Life is what happens when you own a Schwinn Cruiser...

Strengths:
Shimano Nexus rear hub - a neat little contraption, Springer forks - make for a smooth ride.

Weaknesses:
Not made in black.

Similar Products Used:
Original Schwinn Phantoms, Modern Schwinn Cruisers, Nirve Cruisers (also neat bikes but not a Deluxe 7!)
