Favorite Ride:
Long, smooth, hilly, fast, intense, hilly, scenic

Bike Setup:
Ultegra cassette, ultegra chain, carbon FSA crank, 105 derailleurs, 105 brakes (which work fine)105 shifters. Soon, everything will be Ultegra.

Summary:
I road race and this groupo came with my bike, which was a BMC Streetfire SSX. A great bike, not such a great groupo. Needless to say, it worked for 7 months and then it was done. I had to have my left shifter replaced because the other one would not "click" anymore and also because I was not able to shift into the big ring too well. Following that procedure, I was not able to shift into the big ring at all, and the cable tension was perfect. Generally speaking, before this point, the shifting was OK. I would never describe it as "crisp" or "clean" but it did the job. But overall, seven months isn't exactly the expected life of a groupo. 105 is terrible.

Strengths:
Excuse me?
...
The brakes are alright.

Weaknesses:
Evidently has a lifetime of seven months, doesn't shift into big ring well (even when I wasn't having problems it was not too great), shifter problems (there is a pile of 105 shifters in my bike store that other riders besides myself have had to trash). Also, I noticed that just in general, I always had to press the shifter twice of three times to get the chain to go into the small ring.

Bike Setup:
Miyata Nimbus being built for race

Summary:
I am currently building a road to compete with and the Shimano 105 was recommended to me. Well, I purchased it and installed it a few days later and went for a test ride. I've never been so disappointed. In the low gears, it was fine. But as soon as I shifted into the high gears, the octagon "teeth" inside the left crank stripped out so bad the crank would freespin with zero resistance

Strengths:
No strengths, absolute weak part.

Weaknesses:
The materials are incredibly poor. Yes, it is fairly light but one should make a product that is strong and light or strong and heavy. Light and weak is a very poor combination.
