    Price Paid:  $1000.00 at lbs

    Favorite Ride:
    morgan territory road

    Bike Setup:
stock except for saddle & peddles

    Summary:
This was my first bike with index shifting and double pivots brakes. So I have been completely satisfied with the Sora grupo. Only recently have I encountered shifting diffuculty with the rear brake lever/shifter upshifting. The frame is the most beautiful I have ever owned and I have owned some beauties. I have been very happy with this bike.

    Strengths:
Beautiful, strong frame, good solid grupo.

    Weaknesses:
    stiff ride, so-so tires.

Price Paid:  $950.00 at private sale

    Favorite Ride:
    Lake Burley Griffin

    Summary:
Just bought the bike second hand, $950 AU, but looks new. The Australia Version is quite differnet from the picture, its metalic dark blue, and full tiagra, including hubs, cranks, brakes etc. Its so far a great bike, although the handle bars are a little to thick for my aero bars, but tat'll be eaily fixed with a new pair.

    Strengths:
Good all round componets, nice frame and geometry.

    Weaknesses:
    None yet

    Favorite Ride:
    paved roads

    Bike Setup:
Shimano Sora, Icon Bar, Mavic wheels

    Summary:
This is a great bike for its quality and price. It is not the best bike, but I can guarantee that, if you just forget about what better bikes there are out there and focus on getting used to handling this bike and doing some serious biking, you will enjoy it to the fullest extent. If you look around, there are still so many others who ride lower quality bikes. Biking, in reality, is not one of the biggest sport in the US. Riding on this beautifully designed Trek bike through neighborhoods and bike trails, you will a lot of the time encounter bystanders' admirations. It's a way to get into the sport without having to sacrifice an arm or a leg, which is absolutely unnecesary. Just be comfortable with what you have and there will be no regret at all. For the love of biking and for the sake of healthy living, choose this bike and enjoy!

    Strengths:
Beautiful frame and color! Affordable for great quality bike. Pride of riding an American made product and the brand used by the Tour de France champion. Light weight.

    Weaknesses:
    Slow gear shifting; a little noisy; toe-strap;

    Similar Products Used:
Specialized Hybrid, Peugeot, Schwinn road bikes

Price Paid:  $792.00 at Gamache's Cyclery

    Favorite Ride:
    Pavement

    Bike Setup:
Sora components, Icon bars, San Marco seat, IRC tires, Mavic wheels, Specialized computer.

    Summary:
This bike is a excellent bike for the person who wants the most performance for the least amount of money. It feels great going as fast as cars on the road. This bike loves to climb and go fast. I have gotten up to sixty mph. It moves! Eventually I will upgrade the wheels and the drivetrain. But it is already great as it is. This bike is a keeper. I can't believe it weighs only 19 lbs!

    Strengths:
    Frame, bars, wheels, components

    Weaknesses:
    The seat....ouch!

    Bike Setup:
Stock with clipless pedals and profile aerobars

    Summary:
I bought the bike to train for mountainbiking, and for days when I cannot make it to the trail. For that purpose, the bike is just fine.

Smart move on Trek's part, putting the value in the frame. As other parts wear out, I will upgrade. I have not had too much of a problem with the Sora drivetrain--I am used to a mountainbike, and the Sora shifts as smoothly as my mountainbike, which has XTR. It tends to go out of adjustment very easily, though.

I rode a duathlon using this bike on the weekend, and was able to come in ahead of some of the poseurs with ultra-lightweight $5000 triathlon bikes. Remember--a high end bike is nice, but it is the "engine" that makes the difference. For a recreational rider, the Trek 1200 is a pretty good deal.

    Strengths:
    The frame

    Weaknesses:
    Drivetrain goes out of adjustment
