    Strength:

    light

    Weakness:

Seat falls back, bolt hard to turn with multi tool, clamp broke.

Seat slips when you hit bumps due to the clamps bending the rail instead of clamping it. Clamp finally snapped when i got tired of that and tightened it more.

    Light, soaks up road buzz

    Weakness:

Very poor clamp design that is a headache to use and doesn't stay put.

I got this post with a Cannondale I bought and though it was a poor design from the moment I pulled it out of the box and set about trying to get the seat mounted in the thing. From then on it's been a bit of a headache trying to get my bike adjustments just right as the clamp design is very difficult to deal with. I have read the USE specs for this post and it doesn't seem like the amount of torque they specify is enough to hold the seat safely and firmly in place. I know I crank the hell out of mine now, ever since it slipped up on me during a ride.

Bottom line go buy a Thomson if you have a carbon bike.

one screw design, light weight, good looking, comfy carbon ride.

    Weakness:

one day the negative reviews i read might come true for me. so far after 2 or more years they have not.

Well this is the first seatpost I have owned after the stock Masi Seatpost. I read all the reviews and bought this seatpost due to its uniqness and how light it is (yes i check out weight weenies .com). I have written other reviews and stated I am 220 lbs but after 3 years of constant riding i am still 220 and now older. Why tell you this...this seat post can handle fatboy abuse. It has never moved on me, my annual bike fitting guy never has problems with it. I do not have problems with it and it is extremely comfortable to ride to include my carbon fiber seat. I know i see so many bad reviews but i have to question, how is it that a fatboy like me can ride a 100 miles a week, somtimes hard and others not, and this seat post has not had one problem? I don't question the other reviewers experience but i have to admit that i fully read all the instructions, went the u.s.e. web site and followed all torque recommendations. I did this because i read a review that said if you do the aove you will not have any prolems. The only fault i have is i am highly overweight for this seat post but still no problems. To me this is a great product with a unique design, light weight and comfy. All i have ever done to this seatpost is check it and ride it.

    It's light

    Weakness:

    It's a POS

I've used this damn thing since I bought it three years ago, and every time I've ever had to make an adjustment it's an ordeal. I have the original 2 bolt (if you can call them bolts) unit, and from what I can tell you can adjust the seat maybe 3-5 times if you're extremely careful before those stupid 2.5mm screws strip. They've send me replacements a few times, and I just keep limping along with it, dreading ever changing saddles or positoin. But I recently moved it to another bike and of course the stupid 2.5mm bolts stripped again, but this time I also found that the post was cracked vertically down the whole length of it! This is truly the worst product I've ever purchased - it's like some sort of cruel joke!

The stock Alien USE Seatpost was a disster. Came apart on second ride nearly injured in pre-ride warm up. Sent USE and e-mail about it, they NEVER responded. Spoke to C-Dale rep and advised the company should cease to use the product....Sorry guys...Crappy seatpost.

    Light weight

    Weakness:

    Poor clamp design

While the seatpost is extremely light and durable the design of the saddle clamp is poor. It is almost impossible to adjust the fore, aft, and tilt of the saddle without disassembling the clamp. The frustration of dealing with the clamp outweighs any benefit the seat post may offer.

    Strength:

It is pretty easy to adjust once the saddle is mounted and it does look cool. I didn't bother to weigh it since I do not plan on keeping it, that and Alien only lists the skinniest and shortest post they offer.

    Weakness:

    see above incompatibility issues.

First problem, I cannot use my carbon railed saddle. Second, the bike I have has an over sized seat post diameter, so I cannot swap back to my proven post and saddle combo. Honestly I have not used this product long enough to test the durability of it, yet the simple incompatibility of it with any other high dollar saddles and the size (more the bike's fault) have me looking for some shims and abandonment of this post.

The clamp design is terrible and dangerous. They should be forced into a recall, and provide ne heads to all consumers.

If you are looking for a super light seatpost, then look no further. However if you are looking for a good seatpost then you better keep searching. I purchased this post without doing enough research, and now I’m paying the price. It should be criminal to sell a seatpost with such a flimsy and failure prone clamp design. I have the 2nd generation head, which is a single bolt versus 2-bolt design from a few years ago. It is simply not possible to get this clamp to hold the seat securely when torquing to the specs provided by U.S.E. I spoke with two other people that have the same saddle, both of whom weigh around 180lbs as do I. We all had the same problem. When torqued to spec the clamp will slide backwards so that the saddle nose turns up in the air, and in extreme cases the entire clamp and saddle assembly will fall off. It happened to me. So I finally torqued the thing to the point that the socket head cap screw is no longer a 4mm allen, and I’ll probably have to cut the seat off to mount it on another post. Don’t waste your time with this thing, it’s frustrating and dangerous to use.

    Strength:

    Light, well-made, looks cool, comfortable.

    Weakness:

Treat 2 bolt clamps with a little care, as very fiddly to tighten or adjust saddle.

Bought this seatpost to reduce road vibration, as was all aluminium set-up. Does seem to have reduced vibration & is well-made. My post has the old 2-bolt mechanism, which is too damn fiddly - hoping to resolve this with the single bolt system & retrofit.
