Price Paid:  $1400.00 at in Washignton DC(for

Favorite Ride:
smugglers notch (VT)

Bike Setup:
All orginal Deore DX and XT( 7speed) driveline . F&R brakes have been recently replaced with Avid SD ultimate V brakes (awesome stopping power). Clipless pedals, Racks and Freddy fenders. HydraPost for the stoker

Summary:
1994 model( store demo) with Deore, DX and XT mix. We bought this tandem in 1994. The 1994 and previous model years were all True Temper tubing in later years mixed in Hi Tensile steel and the componet quality went down also, Nashbar sold this frame style for a year or so. Dirt Research became the bike name and distributor in the last half of the 1990's
Dirt Research went out of business a year or so ago.
We have over 10,000 miles of serious riding on this bike. Other than a U- brake failure at 1500 miles it has been trouble free
Used ones can be found in the $600-800 range.

Strengths:
very Good quality welding for a Taiwan built frame.Good TT tube set. Handles very well, ride isn't harsh, good quality stock (7speed)shimano componets.

Weaknesses:
Rear scott u-brake, The brake was orginally intended for a under chainstay mount. Yokota mounted them on top of the seatstays
The problem is the brake is upside down from it's intended use and is subject to brake torque pulling the brake arms off of the brake body(happened at 1500 miles) Later bikes came with XT-U brake or cantlevers which didn't have this problem.
Frame feels a little soft when climbing out of the saddle. If you climb sitting down you would never notice.
