at Bike Shop Favorite Ride: Glacier National Park Bike Setup: BMC Pro Machine. Cervelo P3. Summary: When I asked a Zipp engineer what would be the best wheelset from their line for racing (road, TT, tri, climbing) if I could only pick one, he directed me straight to the 606. The cost made me nervous as anybody at first, but I have ridden my 606's to many victories and a few CA state championships while climbing, sprinting (road), and TTing. There are different specialty wheels that are designed to be stiffer, lighter, stronger, more aero (808?); but I have experienced nothing else that has come as close to being such a complete performance package. I weigh 165lbs and usually feel plenty control in the wind, and after 2 full seasons of racing these wheels seem as good as new. I recommend these wheels to any performance minded cyclist looking for an all around wheelset. Strengths: Very comfortable- wheels absorb much road vibration. Makes a cool "whooshing" sound. 1350g- very light for a deep set. AERO. All around winner. Weaknesses: Tubulars aren't everyone's cup of tea. Not as effortless as clinchers, but the pros and many others think it's alright. Smaller riders could have control issues in the wind. Pick something less expensive for crits.
