Strength:

Quality frame that is ready for upgrades. Triple triangle design still looks great!

Weakness:

RSX components function but need to be upgraded to 105 / Ultegra. Change out the 7-speed to a 9-speed and it's good to go.

Original 1995 Aluminum frame with intact paint and decals. This bike is not for the weight weenies but will get you where you need to go.

Strength:

Steel frame(strong),nice paint job, entry level components(good starter setup).

Weakness:

Rear cluster& chain should be upgraded, RSX components are ok though will need to be upgraded over time. Tires should be replaced after a few rides "VERY" cheap!

For a recreational rider a good bike that offers everything you need and has potential for future upgrades as needed. One of the only bikes that offers a steel frame in this class of bike.

Strength:

Steel frame a "MAJOR" plus, strong frame, nimble handling nice starting point for new roadie. Nice paint job!

Weakness:

components are fair but considering the price of what you get its reasonable. Seat is hard and peddles are worthless.

Good bike for the money probably the best bang for your buck in this class. Compared to other bikes in its class was one of the few that was steel.

Strength:

This bike has an extremely strong frame. Even on rough roads, the feel is solid. The components are also superior for the cost. I highly recommend this bike

Weakness:

The only problems with the bike are the seat and the pedals. The seat is horribly uncomfortable and the pedals need to be trashed. With the addition of a new seat, clipless pedals, and Profile bars, I felt this bike was a great entry-level road/tour bike.

Best buy for your money.

This bike is great for everything i need it for. It had a stiff and solid feeling aluminum frame. The bike could be lighter if GT got rid of that stupid triple triangle thing though. I can't put a frame pump there and I can't put a big bottle there either.
Shimano RSX works good for me right now. It shifts perfectly and its faster then the xtr on my mountain bike. (ya need to play with it for a while first) The shimano exage motion brakes are pathticly weak and could use better modulation. (i used to think these brakes were fine before seeing dual pivot dura ace) The IRC tires are wearing well and the rear has just a little wear after 800km. I wish i could put more air in them then 130psi though. The cheap gt stem it comes with works fine but dosn't have a removeable face plate and i wish it had lower rise.over all i will give this 4 dead burning horses because all the weakness a mentioned are minor.

Strength:

Super stiff frame, sprints like a raped ape, great value for the money.

Weakness:

Super stiff frame. Could be a bit lighter. Not geared for sustained speed. Aluminum fork vibrates the crap out of you.

The bottom line is that I'm VERY impressed by this bike. I'm a recreational Triatlete and I bought this bike because I simply COULD NOT fininsh another triathlon on my road tire equipped mountain bike. I didn't have much cash to throw around so this is what I got. I was not disappointed. Aside from the aforementioned weaknesses this bike is where its at if you're looking for value and superb handling in an entry level racer. With the right upgrades this bike would be a definite contender in anything you could fancy registering in. Way to go GT!

Strength:

Alumimum frame (1996 model). Stiff. Triple changring for newbies.

Weakness:

The wheels were kinda thrown together. I had few flat tires from burrs inside the rim. Extra thick rim tape and getting rid of the burrs stopped the flats. Cro-moly fork transmits road vibration. Bike gets smoother with higher-quality tires.

Excellent value for the money. $600 for a good, up-and-running bike. Check the wheels, change the saddle and add clipless pedals.

1996 model, aluminum frame, chro-moly fork. Good price for beginner bike. Able to do most anything.

Weakness:

Came with RSX components, but I upgraded.

I love it! Nice, stiff aluminum frame. Not made for racing, but a nice general-purpose bike. Have talked to other owners of the same bike, and they all love it.Nice wheels, I have over 5,000 mi. on them, and never needed truing. Good bike for the money!

Strength:

Price, great entry level road & recreational bike.

Weakness:

Components. RSX functions, but 105 would be a substantial improvement.

I was looking for a entry level cro-moly bike for less than $700. This fit the bill. Put 1000 miles on in first year. Easy to handle on both 25 mile weekend rides in the country and as 20-mile round trip communter with a rack and panniers. The frame absorbs bumps nicely. But after a year and half, I'm ready to move up to better components.
