Got it in 1999 for a trans-continental ride in 2000. Still have it but have replaced it with a Giant carbon frame. I can’t say enough good things about the GT. The Shimano 105 components are just starting to glitch a bit after 20 years and thousands of miles! Brake hoods are demolished but that’s expected with this amount of use. I cannot find replacements anywhere however, so faced a drivetrain / brakes replacement for $1,800.00 + potential unforeseen issues with such an upgrade or buy a new bike for $600.00 more and use the GT as a trainer. No brainer. I tried really hard to retrofit upgrade my GT as a first choice. But to no avail.

Weakness:

I switched out the saddle at purchase so i have no input about the stock saddle like others comment. An amazing steed!

saddle, saddle, and saddle.

Great bike. 4000+ miles and not a single problem except the occasional flat. Yes, the factory saddle is terrible, which seems to be the case on other GT's as well. I don't know why GT seems to be frowned upon by people who own bikes by other bigger-name brands. I looked long and hard at all the major manufacturers before buying, and you just can't get more bike for the money if you're stuck paying retail like me. The quality is there, as I know of a few people who bought Trek's or Cannondale's and have ad some problems. I've had many compliments on the aesthetics, and it's fast to boot. The 105 components are perfectly acceptable for my uses (a few tours, the occasional 100, some sprint training). I got the triple chainring simply because it was all that was available. I never use it, but if I was obsessed with grams then I would diet off a pound or two before I started shelling out money.

Stiff, but coomfy. Light. Very hot looking design and paint scheme. All 105 works very well together

Weakness:

Triple. Harder then hell saddle.

Sweet ride for the price. I am a mountian biker that needed a good training ride and this is definetly it. I like the full 105, the stiffness that is still not Cannondale harsh, and the sharp looks. Great ride for the mountian biker who needs a training bike and is going to use the triple to climb a mountian. I think this is going to be a hot bike for GT this year!

Carbon Fork... same fork used on their top of the line model, shimano 105--flight deck compatible-- stiff frame, nice wheels, fast

Weakness:

triple? triple triangle... what the hell does that do? triple chainrings.... on a road bike? huh? what?

It's a pretty trick ride for the price. Considering I couldn't get my hands on the schwinn that I wanted with the 853 reynolds, and the time carbon fork. I mountain bike and I need a good training ride. This is a very competent bike for what you get, the 105 is decent, the carbon fork is nice, and the wheels roll well. I have a hard time believing that GT will get $1400 for this bike when you can get a bike with similar components, a carbon fork and decent wheels for $1100 or less.... but then again I bought it didn't I. The reviewer below me is right, this will be a really hot bike, If its in your budget, and its what your looking for, go out and buy it, you will not be sorry.

I have ridden this beauty for about 4 months and I love it! I can't get enough of it lately and I have put on about 500 miles and it keeps getting better. This a fast, comfy bike that is working well for a training ride.

The saddle sucks

I was looking for a triple chain ring bike for an upcoming ride back from St. Louis through northern Missouri. We go completely self contained so I was a little afraid of all the reported hills with all of my gear. I looked at many bikes, none of which I really liked and had almost decided to put an Ultegra triple on my Fugi when I walked into a new sporting goods store here in Lincoln. (Scheel's) They had this bike on sale, along with a "99" Schwinn Homegrown Factory Suspension. The prices were right, and I walked out with both of them. (I bought this bike for $900) I haven't put more than a couple hundred miles on it so far, but except for the saddle it's great. No problems, no complaints as of yet and it looks great too. I would have given it a 5 star rating except for the saddle and a defective rear hub that the bike shop found before they let me take the bike home. (I guess that is Shimano's fault, not the bikes, but GT did let it out that way)

Great bang for the buck.
Triple chainrings.

Weakness:

Warning- DO NOT RIDE EVEN ONE MILE ON THE STOCK SADDLE!

I like the triple chain rings, I ride a lot of steep hills, the kind that when cement trucks go up them, they are dribbling cement out the back. I also like triple chainrings for a few of the hills when I commute 50 miles round trip to work, carrying a 30lb back pack.

The bike handles well and feels good and stout for how light it is. I have the 60cm size, am 6'2" and 230lbs and like the fact that there is not the flexing I find in steel framed bikes.

Heed the warning under "Product Weaknesses".

Best buy for $. Great Warranty.

Weakness:

Seat, have yet to try another but I should be used to it by now and am not !

This is for the 2001 ZR3.0. Basically same bike as 2000 model. AWESOME. Fast, light. Had trouble with shifter and at 100mi check, dealer noticed it and swapped shifter under warranty. Much easier to pedal than my old 89 Bianchi Campy.
This is a GREAT bike for the $ concious person. I spent months researching the best buy and from the major brands, this was it. 105 components, Al frame, triple ring gear and LOOKS GREAT TOO ! I'm partial to a yellow bike (good visibility) and both my Bianchi and this ZR3.0 are yellow.

Weakness:

Seat was horrible (bet you've heard that before), I think the triple ring is excessive

A mountain biker at heart- I needed a road bike for training during the week and for triathalons so that I would not get dusted quite as badly at the races. Have not used this bike for a race- but it handles quite efficiently, maybe a little twitchy when you get over 40mph- but then again- what bike isn't? Great value in components and a solid manufacturer. Have not had any problems with my GT Xizang mountain frame either- but I know that GT would be right there if I ever do. This bike is really worth the money.
