Tough lock, not too heavy but still difficult for someone to cut.

Have to pay extra for the theft replacement guarantee; raw metal outside edges can damage bike, flimsy mounting bracket.

The blackburn locks are good and make it more likely your precious bike will still be there when you come back, but they're far from perfect. The lock's outside edges aren't padded and the bare metal is perfect for removing paint. The bracket is far too flimsy for the lock, and even everyday bumps on the road are likely to break it under the lock's weight.

The theft replacement guarantee is the biggest problem. It only applies to certain states within the US and Canada. You have to register your lock within 15 days of purchase, including a large amount of paperwork on bike and lock, as well as payment. That's right; the guarantee isn't included in the price of the lock and is instead an optional extra.
The lock registration form isn't sent out with your lock, and nowhere does blackburn mention that you need to fill one out. It took several attempts at contact to before they would send me a copy, three attempts before I was even sure it exists. So you'll probably have had the lock more than 15 days before knowing you need to fill out the form, let alone managing to get hold of one, find the required documents and send it all to them.
