Strength:

Nice finish and well built. They are excellent brakes. The key to braking with Tek Tro is setting them properly and following the torque specs. TekTro's provide all the braking power you need.

Weakness:

None

Bought the Tek Tro R539 to go on my Cannondale. I've got DuraAce calipers on the Trek, Ultegra Calipers on the Windsor, and now TekTro's on the Cannondale. I can't tell you that their may be a slight difference in stopping power because the Tektro's stop just as well as Shimano. Pads and proper setup and there will be no problems. Have ridden 1100 miles on Tektro without incident and plenty of stopping power. No they don't cost as much as Shimano and thats not a downside, thats the upside!

Strength:

Good level of finish. Nice design clear fenders and opens up wide to remove wheel.

Weakness:

Dangerously feeble. Do not use for high speed descents.

I wonder if there are manufacturing variations in this brake? Rivendell seems to love it. It looks well made and the finish is nice. The problem is there's way too much flex in the arms. Very spongy feeling at the lever, and no power despite attempts to optimize them by a pretty experienced bike mechanic (me). Tektro makes some good products, but this is not one of them.
