Strength:

cushions the road vibration

Weakness:

allows seat to rotate after 1,000 miles

I got this seat post as an oem on a Sequoia Elite. While it provided a somewhat smoother ride, it developed a looseness that was disconcerting. After about 1300 miles, theer was a play in the post that allowed the nose of the seat to move over 1/2" in each direction horizontally. I talked with a rider of a same bike, similar miles and his was doing the same thing. I replaced the post with a plain carbon post without the shock absorbing qualities. I have decided I like the more solid connection to the frame without the wiggle. I don't miss the vibration dampening

Strength:

Ride comfort. Cost.

Weakness:

Weight. About 140 gm heavier than a Pave carbon seatpost.

After riding in two century rides, I decided to try a suspension post on my road bike. The Specialized S-works bike I ride is very stiff and even with a Pave carbon seatpost, the long rides were very uncomfortable on my rear end! I'm 6'2" and 180 lbs. I noticed that a friend of mine who rode a Softride bike seemed surprisingly fresh after long rides. The considerable movement of his seat position didn't seem to bother him. Specialized is the only maker with a "road" suspension post, so I tried it. The post is adjustable, so you can have as stiff or soft a ride as you like. Adjustment of the polymer spring with made with an allen wrench. I finally managed to adjust mine to absorb much of the shock of rough surfaces while not having any noticeable movement on normal road surfaces. I was very pleased with the performance of the seatpost and would recommend it to anyone with too punishing a ride or rough road surfaces.
