Reynolds Stratus Cross wheelsets - tubular

Reynolds Stratus Cross wheelsets - tubular

DESCRIPTION

Two-wheel drifts, bunny-hops over barriers, crashing, sliding and equipment battering worse than the road -- Reynolds wheels endure the most trying conditions. This endurance was validated by overall victories in the Verge Cup and the Redline Cup by top U.S. cyclocross champions Mark Gullickson and Todd Wells. Race after race and the wheel has never seen a truing stand? Must be a Reynolds. Strong
Cost 1/3 as much as Lightweight Wheels -- which I'm told also are strong enough to support someone like me.

Weakness:

None

My first set of carbon tubulars, I got these in anticipation of a race last autumn. I've enjoyed them immensely. No problems to report. They are as true as the day I bought them and faster and lighter than anything I've experienced before -- really great wheels. They brake just fine (DA carbon pads).
I'm 6'2" and average 220 lbs, and very hard on equipment, so I got the cross wheels for the extra spokes.

Price (retail) Tubie(????)

This is a early review but I had to tell someone all about these amazing wheels... First I want to give props to Reynolds. These wheels are so quick, stiff, light, fast, and durable. This if my first set of tubies, and I could not be more pleased with them at the moment. I have only ridden on them a couple of times, but wow! the handling of my bike has completly changed for the better. I am a 215-220# rider and 6'4" tall. I bought the cross model because of the extra spokes. I only road ride with them, I don't even own a Cross bike. If you are a large person don't hesitate to get these wheels. I did a fair amount of research and decided the Zipps would not hold up to my weight so I contacted Nick and Eric at Reynolds. They were super helpful. Also Eric suggested that I use Kool Stop green pads for the wheels. WoW they stop quick. I could go on for a while but I have the wheels true test coming up. The TBP, 120 miles of 11000 feet of climbing and downhilling. I will post a followup. Oh ya. Their worth every penny! (You can tell your wife that)

Strength:

Light even with the extra spokes. (less than 1300 grams. Very rugged. Excellent, wide breaking surface. Great hubs and spokes, too.

Weakness:

none really. Use TUFO Extreme tape and forget about glue.

I bought these as my cyclocross race wheels. THey were great. Really strong, stiff and light. I am now using them on the road. They are just about bombproof and are very stiff on the road. Much stiffer than Kysyrium's. On a long ( 5 hour) ride maybe too stiff. But man are they fast. Braking is no problem. But I do prefer DA carbon pads.
