It’s day 1 of the world’s biggest bicycling industry trade show (1,250 brands representing 49 countries). All this week we’ll be bringing you photos and info on the latest road bike gear, apparel and new technology. Make sure to check back early and often. Cervélo’s all-new R5 is stiffer, lighter, and more aero as it is the trickle-down version of the company’s top-tier, $10,000 RCA. R5 Framesets will be available for $5,000, with full builds with Shimano Dura-Ace or SRAM Red will retail for $7,000. The RCA frame weighs in at 670 grams while this R5 is about 800 grams.

The Swiss bike maker was one among dozens of brands loaning out bikes on Tuesday at EuroBike Demo day. We checked out a Team Machine SLR01.

Most of the major bike brands — including Scott — had giant expo tents set-up and dozens of test bikes at the ready.

Organizers expect upwards of 44,000 people will attend the EuroBike trade show, which kicked off Tuesday with a demo day, then moves inside the massive Messe Friedrichshafen center Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
