2014 Tour de France: Stage 5 Preview – Ypres to Arenberg Porte du Hainaut

Ypres to Arenberg Porte du Hainaut
Wednesday, July 9th / 155.5 km / TDF Header Flat Stage with Cobblestones

After just one day in France, the race hops across the border to Belgium for a battle that includes 15km of cobblestones. The day starts in Ypres where the Tour will commemorate the Centenary of the start of World War I. From there the stage 5 route traces some of the same roads used in the infamous Paris-Roubaix (nine cobbled sectors in total). The chase for the final yellow jersey will not be won today, but it can certainly be lost.

Our pick: Look for Peter Sagan to survive, then out-sprint a small group for the stage win.
