Announced: Shimano Expands 11 Speed Road Wheel Offerings

Shimano today announced the addition of several new 11 speed compatible road wheels to their lineup for 2014. Most exciting of the announcement may have to be the new Dura-Ace 9000 C24 Tubular Wheels, weighing in at just 1,100 grams, they should be a favorite amongst climbers. The C24 joins the C75, C50, and C35 as tubular options in the 9000 series.

WH-RS81 Wheelset Series

Shimano also announced the WH-RS81 series of 11 speed compatible wheels which feature Dura-Ace level 50mm, 35mm, and 24mm carbon/alloy rims.


WH-RS31 & WS-RS11 Wheelsets

Further filling out the wheel lineup are new wheels the WH-RS31 30mm deep aluminum clincher wheel and the WH-RS11, a durable aluminum clincher wheel.

It should also be noted that all Shimano 11-speed wheels are reverse compatible with 8,9, and 10 speed cassettes. Pricing and availability are tbd.

    I bought 10 speed several years back because I didn’t want orphan components later. Another gear is just gilding the lily, especially considering the reliability and component lifespan problems it introduces. I don’t think Campignolo did the cycling world a favor by creating Super Record 11 speed, and Shimano isn’t doing us a favor now.
