Atomik Carbon has made its road debut with three tubeless-ready carbon clincher wheels, featuring 38, 50 and 85mm depths, and a wind tunnel-tested Aero-U profile for speed and efficiency coupled with predictable handling in a wide variety of conditions. All three wheels feature a proprietary resin braking surface that has been more than three years in development by Atomik. It's designed to offer solid performance, both wet and dry. Disc brake versions will be released in the coming months.
Having cut its teeth on carbon with high-end mountain bike wheels and components, extending its carbon engineering expertise to road seemed like a natural evolution for the Atomik brand.
"While we believe greatly in the benefits of a quality carbon wheel on the trail, we know that there's an incredible opportunity to translate our carbon technology to provide a technical advantage in road cycling," said Kevin Lineberger, Atomik's vice president.
Atomik's proprietary prepreg and layup featuring Japanese Toray composite technology is claimed to result in a combination of precise handling and power transfer coupled with good ride quality for a sprint-ready wheel that can just as comfortably settle in for a century.
"All carbon is not created equal," said Lineberger. "There is a vast difference between a proprietary high-end product like Atomik and the generic overseas knock-offs proliferating on the Internet. The devil's in the details you can't see, and those are the details we lose sleep over."
All wheels are directionally drilled and feature Sandvik stainless steel aero-bladed spokes laced to Atomik six-pawl hubs with 54 points of engagement featuring a full compliment of stainless EZO bearings.
Atomik Carbon road wheels ship pre-taped for tubeless setup and with a 'Century Pack' that includes one extra spoke of each spoke length, a 10-speed spacer, skewers, tubeless valves, high-performance carbon black brake pads and a voucher for one free set of replacement OEM brake pads by the original owner.
