When BMC Racing Team comes to a race like the Tour of California they bring in the neighborhood of 40 bikes. Each rider has their race bike and two spares, one of which resides on the follow car. Each rider also has a race TM01 time trial bike and a spare of that as well. The team will also carry close to 80 pairs of wheels, running the entire range of sponsor Easton’s offerings. Spare groupsets, tires, powermeters, and almost everything a bike shop would carry, the team has housed in their sprawling team truck.
Ian, the head mechanic of the BMC Racing Team, gives us a glimpse into what it takes on the mechanics side of things to support a race team at the Tour of California, as well as a quick overview of George Hincapie’s race bike, a 2012 BMC Team Machine SLR01.
