Nature Valley GP, Minneapolis/St.Paul, Minnesota
Stage 1: St.Paul Time Trial
Jackie Crowell 2nd Place NVGP Time Trial
Nature Valley GP is always a team favorite, always expect the unexpected at this event, tornadoes, torrential rain, fabulous weather, or hail its usually a little of everything! This spectator friendly event attracts great crowds. Theresa Clif Ryan, Tayler Wiles, Jackie Crowell, Kristin McGrath, Kaitie Antonneau and Heather Logan will represent Exergy TWENTY12 on the bike this week and off the bike Simon Cope will direct, Steven Wilkes mechanic and Mike Iavarone, soigneur.
Stage 1 St. Paul Time Trial, a new course this year. The Nature Valley Race bible stated “This will be a no-frills slug fest. Riders will fly up and down East River Road on a challenging 7.7 mile course that’s punctuated by rolling climbs.” The weather was fair and the riders had an early 8:30am start. No TT equipment allowed.
Exergy TWENTY12 rider Jackie Crowell rode a fantastic race finishing 2nd place to Carmen Small 1st (Optum P/B Kelly benefits) and a half second faster that Amber Neben in 3rd (Specialized Lululemon) . Exergy TWENTY12 Kristin McGrath finished just 19 seconds back in 5th place.
“The course was straightforward. After pre-riding it this morning, i knew the challenge would not be the course itself. The challenge would be staying focused and not becoming discouraged by the slow feeling that comes from using a road bike in a TT” commented Jackie Crowell. “ I was thrilled to learn that I was 2nd place and very surprised that i’d beaten Amber. My boyfriend got me by four seconds though, so I’ve still got some work to do. Its going to be a great week of racing here at Nature Valley GP”
