On September 22, Fabian Cancellara and the rest of the world's top time trialists will be on the hunt for rainbow stripes when they take on the 56.8km world championships course in Italy from Montecatini Terme to Florence. As usual the man nicknamed Spartacus will be among the favorites for gold, a feat he's already accomplished four times in his illustrious career.
In advance of that momentous day, we got an up close look at the Swiss rider's bike during the recently completed Vuelta a España. Expect Cancellara to be piloting a very similar bike later this month.
Cancellara's ride is a custom Trek Speed Concept time trial machine with a special stem that runs seamlessly into the top tube. All cables are internal and both front and rear brakes are integrated into the frame for maximum aerodynamic efficiency.
Component spec includes an 11-speed mechanical Shimano Dura Ace groupset, 177.5mm cranks, giant 56-44 chainrings, an 11-25 rear cassette, a 90mm Bontrager Aeolus front wheel, full disc rear wheel, Schwalbe's new One 25mm tires, Speedplay pedals, a snub-nosed Prologo Zero TT saddle, and an SRM power meter.
