San Diego/Interbike Expo, Las Vegas — Fallbrook Technologies Inc. (Fallbrook) has announced that it will showcase model year 2013 city bikes at this year’s Interbike Expo from Breezer, Dahon and Bike Friday that expand the pairing of its smooth shifting NuVinci N360™ transmission with the Gates Carbon Drive™ belt drive system. Interbike Expo will be held September 19-21 in Las Vegas, NV.
At this year’s Interbike, 2013 model year bicycles equipped with the NuVinci N360 drivetrain and Gates Carbon Drive™ CenterTrack™ system, include the Breezer Beltway commuter bike, and two folding bike models; the Dahon Mu N360 Belt, and the Bike Friday Carbon Infinity tikit. The first commuter bike featuring the NuVinci/Gates combination is the popular Novara Gotham, available through REI. In addition, the 2013 Jamis Commuter 4 will be at Interbike, along with extreme fat tire bikes for snow and rough terrain from Bamboosero and 9:Zero:7. NuVinci’s award winning Harmony™ auto-shifting system will also be on display via a Kalkhoff brand e-Bike for growing interest from the North American market. Harmony is the world’s first automatic CVP shifting system, which is standard equipment on 15 e-Bike brands worldwide.
The NuVinci N360 continuously variable (CVP) drivetrain can seamlessly shift through an infinite number of effective drive ratios within its wide 360 percent range (even under high pedal torque) – making riding even more enjoyable without power interruptions, missed gears or dropped chains. The intuitive NuVinci shifter’s feather touch is fun to use, easily increasing or decreasing pedaling effort. The NuVinci N360 hub is also maintenance-free.
“We are pleased by the increased adoption of the NuVinci CVP technology as the drivetrain of choice on many of the world’s leading commuter and lifestyle bicycle brands,” said Geoff Petrangelo, director of North American Sales and Business Development for Fallbrook’s Bicycle Products Division. “With growth in the commuter and e-Bike segments in North America, we are pleased to partner with OEs to provide bicycles that feature state-of–art technology designed to make cycling easier and more fun whether it’s riding around town or commuting to work.”
“We are excited to be working with NuVinci on the new Breezer Beltway after having great success with the Uptown Infinity, the 2011 Commuter Bike of the Year,” said Joe Breeze, founder of Breezer Bikes. “NuVinci’s infinitely variable transmission has the smoothest shifting ever and the exact gear you want. With the NuVinci N360 and the Gates carbon belt drive, the Beltway delivers a ride that is smooth, quiet, infinitely fun and infinitely practical.”
“Gates Carbon Drive is a close partner with NuVinci and we see the N360 as a game-changing technology that perfectly integrates with our belt drive systems to create smooth, stylish and low maintenance bicycles that make bike commuting easier and more joyful,” says Todd Sellden, director of Gates Carbon Drive Systems. “By eliminating derailleurs and chains, Gates and NuVinci are leading the drive toward a new future for cycling, one where bikes are infinitely more practical and fun to ride. The new Breezer Beltway is the perfect example of this collaboration.”
