Better known for its high zoot (and expensive) road bikes, Cervélo announced its new R2 model today, an endurance road bike with a wallet friendly price. Recommended retail is $2500.
The new R2 is built around the company’s R3 frame, a bike that’s been raced at — and won — the infamous Paris-Roubaix WorldTour race. Price of the R2 was kept in check in part by the use of a more economical fork and graphics package. The bike is spec’d with Shimano 105 11-spee groupset, and Shimano RS010 wheels wrapped with 23c Vittoria Rubino Pro tires.
The bike shares the same geometry as the recently re-designed R3. Improvements over the previous model, according to Cervélo, include a stiffer front end, BBright bottom bracket, aero-enhancing Squoval tube shapes, and future-proof cable management technology, which allows for easy upgrades to hydraulic or electronic shifting. It’s available now.
