Giro Announces New LIVESTRONG® Helmet Collection

News

Giro is proud to announce a collaboration with Lance Armstrong and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Four new special edition LIVESTRONG cycling helmets will be launched in April, 2009, with proceeds going to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The Lance Armstrong Foundation unites people through programs and experiences to empower cancer survivors to live life on their own terms and to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. The Lance Armstrong Foundation focuses on cancer prevention, access to screening and care, research and quality of life for cancer survivors. To date, the Foundation has raised more than $260 million for the fight against cancer. Through our partnership with the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Giro is proud to be a part of the global fight against cancer.

Seven-time Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong said of the new LIVESTRONG Helmet Collection “I’ve had a relationship with Giro for the better part of twenty years. Giro has always been the company that’s led the way in terms of technology, safety and ventilation and all the things that are important to professional cyclists as well as amateur road warriors. It’s been great to be associated with such a leading company as Giro.”

Lance continued, saying “The support from Giro with the LIVESTRONG products, four different types of helmets means a couple of things to me. Number one, we appreciate the support; it helps us fulfill our mission in helping cancer survivors around the world. Also it’s another great symbol of what we should take more seriously when it comes to the cancer fight, the idea of prevention. So the simple act of putting on a helmet, just like you put on a seatbelt, just like we know not to smoke cigarettes, these are all preventative measures to help save lives, increase quality of life and ultimately make people feel happier and healthier. We really, really appreciate the support of Giro and look forward to working together for many years in the future.”

Tom Larter, Giro Vice President explained “We are really proud to continue our long legacy with Lance. Teaming up with him and the Lance Armstrong Foundation to launch this new Giro LIVESTRONG collection is really something special. Most people have been affected by cancer one way or another so we’re really happy to say that the sale of each and every Giro LIVESTRONG helmet will directly benefit The Lance Armstrong Foundation and support the global fight against cancer.

Available April 1, 2009, the new Giro LIVESTRONG Helmet collection consists of the Ionos, Saros, Rift adult helmet models & Rodeo kids helmet.

Ionos

Ionos is the most technologically advanced road cycling helmet Giro has ever created. Or anyone else. Our revolutionary in-mold composite sub-frame (I.C.S.) provides the strength to support 21 of the largest vents ever carved into a helmet. These massive vents, coupled with an intricate network of internal exhaust ports, create a cooling system we call Wind Tunnel ventilation, making Ionos the coolest, best-ventilated helmet anywhere. Perfect for keeping riders like Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong comfortable, even on the hottest days and over the most tortuous Alpine climbs. The special LIVESTRONG yellow and black color scheme lets people know you also support Lance and his foundation’s fight against cancer.

Please can you e-mail me the details of where I can purchase one of the Livestrong helmets in South Africa. I am looking for the IONOS

  • Jim Bishop says:

My son, Adam, is a triathlete on the West Point Tri Team. Yesterday, in Orlando, preparing for the WildMan Tri he had a bike accident that caused him several injuries. He went over the bars and hit his head hard, breaking his Giro Livestrong helmet in three places. He sustained no head injuries and believes this helmet may have saved his life. He will be getting one of these new Ionos models. Great insurance.

    Thanks Giro,
A very thankful Mom and Dad
