NAHBS 2011 – Legor Cicli

Feature Articles North American Handmade Bicycle Show

Francis talks with Mattia Paganotti of Legor Cicli & David Trimble (his US importer). Mattia grew up in Brescia, Italy, in a family full of steelworkers. Having a love of both cycling and working with steel, it was only natural for Mattia to become a frame builder. He got the opportunity to study the art of framebuilding with Gino Lissinoli, who told him early on, “An artisan is shit unless he has passed on his knowledge before retiring.”

While learning the crafts of the trade in Gino’s shop, Mattia met and befriended the widow of Serena. The framebuilder regarded as the best of his generation in Italia. She quickly recognized the passion and craftsmanship, she entrusted him with her late husband’s shop of framebuilding tools and machines. Mattia would then create the Legor brand.
